I heard that Jeremy Clarkson had bought himself the new Ford GT40. Does anyone know if he has sold the SL 55 AMG? He bashed that car pretty often sying it was at the shop all the time.

We knew this since Autumn 2003, and well, of course he still didn't receive, so it's to early to know about the SL

BTW, he bought a GT. not a vintage GT40

No it wasn't his car! it was just a production Ford GT, but the ones allocated to UK are still not arrived.. he will take delivery of his one later this year I guess. So maybe we will see his ones in the next series.

Clarkson had a Ford Escort Cosworth.

He then bought a Ferrari 355GTS (and a Toyota Landcruiser Amazon).

He sold the 355 to buy an SL55 AMG, which he still owns.

He has placed an order on a Ford GT, but it has not been signed off (in a production ready state) in the UK at the moment. He will sell the SL55 as his GT is being delivered.. or so we are lead to believe.

4mpg is par for the course. If I really beat on my car - that means no freeway and no idling traffic - just a crazy run through the backroads in the woods - a couple of runs to 160mph I will get about 9mpg - and that only with a 5.7l tuned to 385hp - if my car was running 550hp (about 470 at the wheels) I would also get 4mpg...

The moment you add some freeway and commute driving - all below or at the speed limit you can EASILY get 12 - 13mpg.. ;) :P

Which is what I have averaged over the lastr 2 years.

So - all in all I think Clarkie will be able to live with the fuel consumption.. of course only after he gets in the car..

as long as he keeps it at good speeds, i think he will see more than 12-13. RC the Ford GT puts down more than 470 at the wheels. i think its closer to 500 at the wheels. badass that a non handling american car can beat a ferrari at its own course basically. the TG track doesnt allow for many high speed sprints.

By the way...in the period of owning the Ferrari 355, around 2000, ive noticed that he owned a Jaguar XJ6 4.0(the 370bhp model) alongside the ferrari and the toyota....if anyone is able to confirm this fact

I don't think he buys all these cars only with his bbc paycheck, I think he gets good sums of money out of his own DVDs....
he's a lucky bastard

He really selling the merc? Not really sure if the Ford GT is good for a daily driver. The car is rather wide.

ahmedgiyab, about 3 weeks ago. I saw in Jumirah a Silver SLR beside it was a white SL55 .. LOL..I did not realize how small the SL is compared to the SLR....

Seriously though I don't think the SL55 is a supercar in anyway espacilly when you see them everyday on the roads over here  . And as you told be before you work in AD so SL55 is a start model over there.

Europe is a different story.....we see SLs here like they see Golfs is Europe.....

Jeremy obviously sold his sl to buty the Ford GT
He said in the new episode of top gear last sunday that he did buy one but that it can only do 4mpg and only has a 17.5gallon tank. richard and james were dissing him coz the car can only do 70 miles on a full tank and he lives 76milles from the top gear studio

aks

even if jeremy doesn't sell his SL now, he's definately gonna have to later to pay for all the fuel costs of running the GT.

anyone see last week's top gear when jeremy tried gettin in to the GT when parked beside another car? it was hilarious!!!

if u didn't see it, then it is definately a must get video!

i'm still not convinced that he'd sell the SL, because he said he bought it because it was so relaxing whereas he describes the GT's acceleration and decelleration as painful to the neck. and why would u buy an SL55 AMG for such a short period of time??

hopefully he hasn't sold the SL cos it is an amazing car!

Think that 4 mpg bit is just for hammering the car on the Top Gear track; didn't notice any road driving in the episode. FWIW, Autocar got 12.3 mpg average, 18.1 at its best (they said you'd be looking at 20 mpg, if you drove it in a way for which it was not meant), 6.7 mpg at worst. They figured a real-world range of 216 miles. JC shouldn't have anythig to worry about.

That's where you're wrong: thinking all Clarkson does is drive nice cars all day. He has to write columns, and is always on a plane. His life isn't all nice. I betcha he bairly gets to drive his own cars. :|

Clarcson's professional life is great. He is a joutrnalist and that's what he does best, Being a carnut at the same time is just coincidence and he has joined those 2 together. However, I think after sighning 3M £ deal with BT he does not have to sell his Sl55 AMG, in fact besides of getting Ford GT as it arrives to UK, he may consider buying F355 back (or maybe he'll just try out 360)?
