I had a credit history check today, and although it all went through ok, my old address was flagged up. The short story is that the old house was sold to developers and it was vacant for nearly a year. Due to some arguments with the neighbours they put security guards in the house blah blah blah. Anyway, obviously some of my post ended up in their hands and they have been trying to use my name and (old) address as security for cars and other expensive items. Lucklily they failed. The police are now onto it. No real harm done, but it makes you think!
Dang! Scary! Luckily they failed!! Phew!

It sucks that you cant trust people anymore. I think more people should get jobs instead of trying to rip people off. I work hard for my money, they should too.

You CAN trust people, there are just few fuckers you have to watch. Sorry to hear that. Kick they butt hard!
Funny how it was the security guards that were the fuckers in this scenario... bastards

Hahaha, yes 'security' guards! Apparently they were not too clever, and have left a nice trail for the police to follow. Should know who they are in a few days :D

I have an excellent programme on this subject called "hot plastic" shows you all the scams used to steal identitys, forge credit cards, and some interesting CCTV footage of how teams obtain your PIN number with hidden cameras set up on ATM machines etc.
I can upload the show if there is enough interest in it ??

The older cards are quite easy to "clone" it shows you how its done with a laptop...the newer cards have a chip in them and you have to enter your PIN when buying goods...its quite new in the UK (we got our new terminal a few weeks back here) but I think its been around in France for a few years now...I am sure Yann could tell us all about it.

The only video that comes to mind is when Top Gear was comparing old models to new ones...I am sure you would have that one though.

Ah yes the chip and pin. I have yet to get my card. However, I have heard that you can get round this at the moment by saying you don't know the pin and then you sign for the goods....WTF is the point of that!
In terms of my situation. The police now know who it is, it was not the security guards as first though, but they were certainly involved in letting the guilty party know that there was a house free and mail arriving there...(so much for re-directed mail!). The gang that used my information have been trying to use aroud 15 other names and addresses, the file on them is getting larger and larger! The police have informed me that they will be acting soon, but want to see if they can cathch them in the act, feels like a game of cat and mouse! :P

Yep correct...you just hit the "alpha" key that bypasses the pin entry...you will only be able to do it though while everyone gets used to the idea of knowing their pin to make purchases with.

If i understand, then you don't have to type a pin when you're at the grocery store??? I can't remember not using pin codes with my card!!

When you have a chip and pin enabled card you will eventually have to enter a pin number into a pad rather than signing for your purchase as you do now.
Ah - you are refering to credit card purchases.
PIN numbers are already required for cash/cheque/debit cards... but only signature needed for CC's.

Greed is a human nature
But think about how boring is a job as security guard in a residential property guarding against the neighbours?

and the fact that they were too lazy to work hard and get a proper job entitles them to steal my identity?
