Some interesting results. The Gallardo didn't do as good as I expected, but the Ford GT was smoking.

We asked the folks from Maranello to bring a Ferrari 360 Stradale, a Ferrari 575 Maranello or a 650-hp Enzo--or all of them. But Ferrari's press officer told us, "Ferrari will no longer participate in any comparison tests." O-kay. Wimps.
Wonder why they are skeeeered?
Because they would struggle to even beat the Z06? Not to mention the beating the GT, S7 and SRT/10 would give em... ;)

Ferrari never gives its cars to journalists who want to this kind of "harsh" test. Ferrari only lends cars to journalists for road tests around Modena. All the track tests and comparos are done with private cars. Or that's what i figure from reading all those magazines. If you want to prove me wrong, please do.
BUT everybody knows that Ford GT will out perform 360(100~75hp more, not to mention tons more torque).
THEN AGAIN, any good car expert will tell you that straight line tests are relatively worthless. It's all about the driving pleasure.

What a cop out
Because all those cars would also be toe to toe with any car you care to name.
The bottom line - DC/MB, Lambo/VW, GM and others are willing to be "tested" - Ferrari not.
THAT is very telling... :)
BTW, don't be too surpised that the results from a test around "place race track name here" would be very much the same.
and the Ford beats the 360 at that too. Besides they do have a point, Top speed has no business, or handling when your at a stop light. Thats odd with the lambo though, only a 12.59? i thought they were good for high 11s? a stock Terminator cobra can match that when driven properly, not to mention a Z06.

But the nice thing is all these cars could continue the race around the mountain... ;)
true. Except for the mercs, they would break down, or just go straight into the mountain. I cant believe the RS6 sucks this god damn much. it has AWD to assist its launch, 450 horsers, and yet is still what .2/3 seconds faster than the old M5? God damn. How come the boys couldnt get a Konigsegg tehehehehe. Also i believe thats the old S7, the new one is supposed to run 10s isnt it?

Very interesting result, the Z06 managed to get the same time as the gallardo even though it's AWD and has a launch mode.

Im really impressed with the time the Ford GT came in.
i knew the GT would own all, about the gallardo, this isnt the only test ive seen where it didnt preform.

I think that's what many of us have been trying to tell everyone for 3 fucking years now... ;)

Well this just shows how knowledgeble popular mechanics are. Ferrari never give out cars for any tests. They have to find owners that are willing to give their cars up for a test.
The dealerships never give out cars for tests. So I dont see were all the American pride is coming from lol.

no big surprise that the ford gt came out the winner. i'm pretty sure the results would have been different had there been an slr or a carrera gt. i'm also a bit dissapointed that ferrari didn't want to join. would have wanted to see how a 360CS do the 1/4 mile.

Too bad regular streets are'nt perfectly clean and dry then. Seems to me the plain vanilla 911 turbo walked the Z06 in perfect conditions.
Hehe. So the Ford GT is the fastest production car to be bought in any dealership on planet earth. Surely they must mean "Ford Dealership"
I kinda understand why Ferrari didn't want to participate. Let's be honest, Ferrari hasn't got anything to prove when it comes to fast cars. Also, they don't build cars to win dragraces at the stop lights.
It's a funny test, nothing more than that. They could've put more cars there to make a comparison. I didn't see budget racers like the SR3 Radical Turbo or other "Lotus Seven"-derivatives, no TVR's, no Vertigo Gillet (one of the fastest cars off the line) and the aforementionned blasters.
What surprises me more is that the AWD cars have no real advantage over the RWD cars.

Next time read the article before you post. The GT got second, the S7 won.
Some magazine out there needs to get their hands on all the exotics out there, the slr, cgt, s7, zonda, enzo, and do a full out track, drag, street test.

yeah, but i mean this is Popular Mechanics, they did pretty well for what they could get.
if it were motor trend or car and driver or something, THEN im sure all the big dogs would come out.
ps, in the article i think it said ferrari wouldnt give them any cars.

For me there have been some surprises in this test.......first of all....i didnt expect that the gallardo was going to be beaten by as many car as these, and mostly by the corvette(i was expecting to get it the last place)
secondly.....i didnt expect that good speed of the porsche 911 turbo
thirdly......i was expecting a bit more of the merc e55 AMG, and quite more about the RS6, although their expectations are less than in the supercars
fourthly.....i was supposing that the SL was going to be slower than the E55 once both have 500 bhp, but the SL weights quite more
fifthly....the performances of the american supercars overall were very good
