What should it be?
They have the Mercedes SLK 55 AMG as this years safety car.

I wonder what next years Mercedes safety car will be

- Mercedes CLS 55 AMG?
- Mercedes SLR Mc laren
- or perhaps an other brand

Indeed, would be better to see something different than a Merc finally ;)

I dont think i would be an slr.I hope it a nother brand :o
I see so many sl500 and mercs in general. They need somthing different

They have had a Red Lamborghini Diablo once, I think it was in Italy
Can anyone remember it, maybe Im wrong but I have seen it once on a picture :|

OhOh, if there was a Diablo safety car one day, even just for 1 second, I'm sure a007apl has a picture somewhere :D

Indeed it would be a good idea to have a manufacturer not involved in the races :D and what better than Lamborghini? :D

Sadly they don't use vintage cars as safety cars.. so no Miura :( and no Diablo anymore I suppose :?

I think the best security car for F1 would be a red Enzo!!

The Merc SLK55 sounds awesome though - you can make out that Bernd Maylander is on the limit throughout while the F1 cars are cruising about in a Safety car lap....

i think in v8 supercars they use the rs6. in the wet the drivers complain they have a hard time keeping up. i wouldn't mind seeing another manufacturer. perhaps something not german tho!

I reckon it will be the SLR, enzo wud be nice, but lets just keep dreaming abouot that for now cos thats not gonna happen.

Audi rs6 wud be nice, but they dont make those anymore..the newer versions maybe.

I would KILL to see a Hemi 'Cuda or L88 'vette as the safety car at the USGP! :D Can you imagine watching the worlds most sophisticated automobiles following those dinosaurs.

Why? It wouldn't make sense at all. A Ford Mustang would be the most plausable American car you would see, but that too isn't plausable.

i dont understand why they dont jus use cars like Ferraris and exotics like that they could even change them every race, and they will defentelty lap faster then the merc they use now and F1 drivers would be happy with that too

i don't remeber the diablo as the safty car, but i think it was a track car, much like the last couple of years in montreal they have been using NSX, but during the f1 race it was only the slk

Yes indeed, and it would be maube the best car for in wet conditions.
They also used it in the DTM

But I think that a rare and exotic car maker would be nice and good for that company aswell. How about a Pagani Zonda, or a Koenigsegg :)

My guess is it´s gonna be a CLS 55 AMG but I would really like to see another manufacturer supplying the safety cars. Does anyone know when/if this is ever going to happen?

I´d like to see the new E60 M5 or the forthcoming M6

I found this BMW M3, I think it is, nice to see something else as a Mercedes and good example of how great a BMW safety car looks, would also like to see the new BMW M5 or M6 as a future safety car :) http://www.binz-behoerdenfahrzeuge.de/img/safetyc3.jpg

I would want a car that's fast and reliable to be a safety car. I dont a safety car sent out because another safety car "expired" during its time out. Just joking .. I am a Pagani fan ...

I think i didn't advertise it big enough:Z06, the only bimmer i'd vote for is the M3 CSL but the vette would look much better. The other big plus is that it's not involved with one of the F1 teams so none of 'em get some extra credit... :P and it's not Europeen

NO NO and NO! GM isn't even involved in F1 at all! BMW 1-Series or Mercedes R-Class! or hopefully the Ferrari 420 Fiorano

It's pretty unlikely to see an uninvolved car company to send in a sasfety car, although it's more likely that F1 commitee wouldn't allow it. F1 races are gigantic commercial ventures and it's every F1 manufacturers for themselves.

So it was a Ferrari sponsored Lambo in Montreal, right :?: I must be blind, i don't see the name anywhere... wait... it's the color isn't it? It was to advertise the new corsa red. So Mr. Right, thats the only plausible explenation then wouldn't you say so

I read that already. And it's 1995. I just took in account that F1 business is now getting horribly commercial and show-like in manners. Like those new rules ans such, and the new circuits to promote F1.

I just can't see Bernie Ecclestone and Mosley letting non-F1 manufacturer to trot around Silverstone and Nurbergring NOW. That's all i'm saying ...jeez no need for name calling...

And it'd be better if you explane why and how they used a Lambo in 1995 Canadian GP. can you do that then?

Seems reasonable to use the SL65 when it comes out (Assuming it's not out already) - anything to get that SLK off the screens.

Isn't the point of the safety car to be making them slow down? I know in the past it was a big issue - hadn't heard anything about it lately in the media...

yes a safety car is to slow the cars down, but also keep them same on the track, and a slow safety car like dons5 can make the tires on the car to cool down causing lose of grip to the track, this is very bad (was a factor in the death of Senna) also if you watched today, schumi was on cold tires during the saftey lab and kimi went into the pits for some new warm ones, if kimi came out infront of the cars that he was stuck behind, he could of passed schumi easy

As someone said a GT3 RS would be a super cool safety car but I don´t think it will happen since Porsche is not involved in F1. So an M3 CSL, M5, next M6, next Ferrari 420 would be the best choices but as I´ve said before, I´m almost sure the next one will be the CLS 55 AMG :(

I think youre right there mate, what could it be else, a chance of a different brand is small, and it will be a merc thats for sure, come to of it by the way, they could use the C-Class 55 AMG again, like they did with the CLK (2x)

Don't get me wrong here but I once saw a opel (yes a opel or vauxhall) as an safety car and of course that lambo from Canada

ya we jus need somethin with the performance of like Ferraris and stuff like that, cause ya even though the point is to slow the cars down, u still need to be goin a bit faster then they currently are, and second even if they are goin a bit faster they will still be goin super slow compared to what they actually do, and third how awesome would that be seeing a Ferrari on he limit leading a pack of F1 cars waiting to burst

SLR would be much better at keeping a quicker pace ... but what about having Zonda or Carrera GT, that would be cool ... or perhaps the most appropriate tool: McLaren F1 driven by ex-F1 drivers like Prost for example or by WRC drivers like Solberg or ex-WRC drivers like Rohrl

I really don´t think it is stock...maybe the engine, I mean I don´t think it is any stronger than the normal one but it does have bigger radiators to cope with the added heat and the brakes are carbon-ceramic. Normal brakes would never be able to handle those speeds and even if they did you can´t risk loosing your brakes on an F1 lap when you have all the F1 cars following you and your on live TV.

Ohh..plus safety lights, 4 or 5 point seatbelts and radio communication

I would prefer any touring cars DTM ETCC or BTCC, since the normal road cars are just too slow for the F1 cars and in a way endanger their lifes. e.g. Senna

I was going to say that there is always 2 safety cars at GP's, like this year in Melb they had a BMW 645Ci as a safety car for the support races and only used the Merc for the F1 events, but a quick google gave me this, I just dont recall seeing it(lambo diablo), I must of fell asleep during that race that year haha.

http://www.lamborghiniregistry.com/Diablo/DiabloVT/SafetyCar.html

Just for the record, Jean Alesi won that year(in a Ferrari) it was his B'Day and his 1st win in 91 starts :) Martin Brundle was racing back then as well.
