Well about time to post pics of my car :D especially since we have to set up the "archive"

It is a 1995 E36 320i, sraight 6, 1991 cc, 24v VANOS, developping (factory value), 150 hp. Not a supercar, but fun nonetheless :D

Not many mods on it beside some 17x7 Barracuda wheels, with some Yokohama rubber on them, DTM style Remus muffler and that's about it :D

Let's just post the latest pics, took today, and also my fav, the snowy one ;)

All of them are clickable for higher res

A dead rat :( poor little thing :(

And this one was left by the BMW mechanics during the last checkup I guess.. I will consider it a present since I paid a hella lot of money :D

Considering how much I paid... really, they could have left the whole mechanic under my bonnet!!

As for the rat :? Imageine the suprise.. I was there for a photoshoot and I ended up trying to remove a dead and someway glued rat from my engine bay :(

All E36's comes with the standard pliers for easy and clean rat removal!

About the image rules:
Lucky I sold my Mazda Miata, cus I didn't have the instruction booklet for it, so you would have to lock my thread again. :D lol

At least you are lucky it didn't die in the ventilation system... My brother once found a dead mouse... The costumer had been complaining about some weird smell :D

A really nice E36 you got there. It looks really well kept and original. How long have it been yours?

TT
07-10-2004, 05:28 AM
Yes indeed! Luckily it was small and not in the wrong place ;)

As for the car, I got it in December 2002. It one of my aunts' car and had only 30'000 km I think, probably less. Right now it has around 57'000 ;)

you should colour code the bumpers and side skirts dude, it really makes a big difference, we did it on our X and it looks awesome.

It was planned, but since the whole paintjob is no more perfect, I would prefer to re-spray the whole car. Sadly it's not that cheap :D

If I will do it, I will let the protective strips not colored.. when I painted them in my previous car, the 106, it was a BIG mistake.. even if I always pay attention while parking, the others don't.. and after some months I had full of little marks allover them :?

did you buy it brand new TT?

TT
07-10-2004, 11:01 AM
Nope, it was owned by my aunt untill 2002, back then my 106 was already near the end of it's life, full of electric problems at only 4 years and 80'000 km, and since both my mom and her borther, my uncle were buying a new Renault Espace. We just sold the 106 to the dealer, got 4700 CHF out of it (3800 USD), and I just gave the money to my aunt for the 320i (great deal). it had probably less than 30'000 km back then!

5 spd? my friend has almost the exact same car but his color looks more like the one from the snowy pic, like a dark blue/purple

nice car - small backseats :D and his radio busted on him so i got an aftermarket one

TT
07-10-2004, 06:55 PM
Yep, 5 speeds :D

As for the color, the one on my car is "right" in the new set of pics. The snowy one is a bit faked by the lighting conditions.

And yes, the backseats are not that great, but we are rarely more than 2 onboard anyway ;)

Nope :( sadly the BBS I wanted were like this:

http://img44.exs.cx/img44/2806/bbs_lm_ci3_l.jpg

I asked for price, for 4 wheels + tires and it was like 1500 USD x wheel (17")... maybe a bit less, but around 4 times what I paid for the ones I actually bought afterall.. and since I paid around 3800 for the car itself, it sounded stupid to pay the same or more for some wheels that will end up (as most of the time), ruined...

So miney are Barracudas.. cheapass manufacturer LOL

Those on your car are nice, amature as me even think that they are BBS :P, and BBS should be shamed
A guy I know had S-class "bear" and bought Lorinsers or so on it, 1000DM at that time(each wheel)

No really Matteo, great looking wheels, not too big or too small, 17" I guess

TT
07-23-2004, 04:02 PM
Yes 17" indeed. 16 was a bit to small (original are 15 BTW), and 18 was a bit:

- to expensive, also for the tires
- to big IMO for a car with 150 hp only :D I wonder if the engine would have been able to move the wheels :D

As I've told you before I really like it. When I get a job I want to buy a car too and a secondhand BMW 3-series (E30 or E36) has crossed my mind. The funny thing is, a 106 (1.6 or 1.3 Rallye) did too! :D When the moment is going to be closer I'll have to work out what the wisest thing for me to do is.

What's the fuel consumption like, TT?

TT
07-24-2004, 11:48 AM
Oh well if you will base your decision on fuel consumptions:

With my 106 1.4 I was able to ALWAYS do 600 km with 45 liters...
With the 320 and it's 60 liters I'm rarely near 500 :( on highway driving (legal speeds) I can keep it below 10 liters/100 km, but in town and daily driving, it's way above the 10 liters mark, while the Pug was more into the 5 I'd say.

Now, both 1.6 and Rallye will drink a bit more that that probably :D especially because they are more focused -> you will drive them faster more often :D

stradale
07-24-2004, 11:57 AM
Now, both 1.6 and Rallye will drink a bit more that that probably :D especially because they are more focused -> you will drive them faster more often :D

Well, that's not too much of a problem  I'm not going to be all sensible about a future car. Don't worry! :D The idea is to have a reliable car that provides fun and a little practicality. I would want a car that doesn't drink too much when used normally but one that is also ready to some evo-style driving when I feel like it.

Oh well if you will base your decision on fuel consumptions

I won't be making my decision on that alone, but I can't deny it will be a factor as I won't be making tons of money.

TT
07-24-2004, 12:07 PM
Ok if you want a reliable car, stay away from the 106 I'd say :(

For mine I spent thousands of Francs trying to fix lambda sensors and such, and all the friends owning 106-206-307 I know, already had various sort of electric problems... nobody as bad as mine, but there is always something...

Sure the chassis is great fun and you can really drive it hard and feel very well what's happening. FF sure, but easy to obtain liftoff oversteer and to catch the slide, also pretty grippy. Ah, and also cheap if you want to tune it.. I still miss my belowed 14" alloys!!! But realiable.. I wouldn't say so...

An E30 or E36 can give you as much fun, will be RWD and for sure more reliable. Of course to tune it or to fix it when there are problems (especially if done at a BMW dealership) can be VERY expensive though (my last checkup, around 50'000 km, no major problems, costed more than 1000 €...)

So if I'd have to give an advice to you right now it would be to choose wathever you prefer but try to stay away from a 106 :( I loved the 106 experience myself, but it was a pain in the ass too..

stradale
07-24-2004, 12:42 PM
:( Hmmmm, sorry to hear that. I haven't heard too many bad things about 106s, but this doesn't sound confidence inspiring...

Higher costs when problems occur with BMWs I had already anticipated.

It's a good thing I don't have to make a decision just yet. Bad thing is, I don't have to because I don't have a job yet. LOL. It's never perfect...
