Can someone explain why M. Schumacher wasn't penalized???

At the beginning of the formation/parade lap, Michael left the grid before Alonso even though he qualified 2nd. That means that he should have received a penalty correct? He was disqualified from the 94 British GP for doing the exact same thing!! WTF

I'm not trying to take away from his epic drive, it was awesome to watch and he deserved to win. I just wish the FIA could get their shit straight. It's like watching NASCAR.

Yes I noticed that also, but I wasn't aware that you could be penalised for it. Its possible that it was a violation back in '94 but the rule could've been changed.

I also saw it, but i think martin brundle said that he is allowed to start like is he wants, as long as he lets alonso pass him shortly after.

Just think if alonso stalled his car or something, what would everyone else do if they passed him?? all get penalized???

Yeah, agreed, I think they're allowed to start how they want, mainly i guess so it allows them to lay enough rubber down and start getting decent heat in the tyres as long as they remain in grid order for the majority of the lap. No reason why this shouldn't be allowed I mean its hardly gonna effect the race

Yes i think you can do it at the beginning.ms cant tell how fast alonso would accel.If its so obvious then i think they would have noticed by now.

in 94, michael deliberately overtook damon hill on the parade lap and stayed in front for quite some time. in the last french gp, alonso was slow off the line in the parade lap and schumacher got ahead. but michael let alonso past right away. it wasn't deliberate so he wasn't penalized.

from what i've read, it's only a penalty if the a driver overtakes a driver when both have gotten clean starts. if one driver is slow off the line or stalls, it is not a penalty to overtake him, but it is a penalty to STAY in front of him. in this case, trulli was about 1 second slow coming off the line, and schumacher had plopped in front. he went at parade speeds and allowed trulli to catch up, then he pulled to the side when he felt comfortable to let trulli pass. no rules were infringed.
