Once i currently find easily hideous(more than ugly, unfortunately) cars of every size when launching on the market, such as the current vectra, the 6,7 series of BMW, the Citroen C3, the pug 407.................and i find myself any 10 year old car much more beautiful than any current one....id like to know if there are some people who share the same opinion as me......

The current Civic is very badly designed....all the previous models looked much more
sportier....
The new 407 look more like a Chrysler....especially the front part....
Most of the new hatchs look like a mini van....which is becoming very annoying... :x
But there are very nice cars such as the SL, CL, S, E,....etc. :D

I think most of the newer cars are horrendous. All of the MBs and BMWs don't do it for me. Last beautiful BMW was the E39 M5 (I still kick myself for not keeping it).
One only needs to look at the solid 560SEL and compare it to the crap S600 now. All of the MBs are Japanese cars (no offense to the Jap. manufacturers), and BMW has obvious issues. Japanese cars are looking beyond wild - there's not even an aesthetic beauty there.
For me, I am moving backwards. My Maranello is the newest car I will buy, I think (except in special cases like the Elise and possibly the Ford GT). After that, it's F40, then Daytona, then...

Then Miura please :P I know it's not a Prancing horse, but nothing could come close to it IMO :D and of course with modern crash tests regulations and pedestrian hitting stuff, nothing will ...
But well, I'm used to get used to new designs, and although my favourite shapes are all to be found in the past, I can't really say I don't love modern models. I'm one of those that firmly believe the Bangle desing is a good move for BMW compared to the conservatives Merc for instance.
The new 5-Series touring IMO is leagues ahead compared to the previous model. Sure the E39 M5 was perfect, still is, but despite I prefer the E60 in touring mode, even the sedan isn't bad.
Anyway, overall, I can't really say I'm disgusted by the cars I see around every day :D

If you kick yourself for changing the M5 with the 550, then fuck it... Okay, the M5 is a very nice car, probably very fun to drive... But a Ferrari... I'd rather have a 1960s Ferrari than a BMW!

I know there are lots of people that don´t like some of the new models coming from the manufacturers...well I don´t know what to think but I would say maybe they´re reluctant to change.
For me it is like this: Some of the new models that have came out in the last years have made me think a little bit wether I like them or not but those are the ones I end up liking the most.

Well the upcoming Mustang is alot better than than any Mustang since late 1970's (especially 80's) The new Chrysler 300C is better than the last 300M, The new Mercedes look better than most of the old ones. This one really is a car to car question.

Yes. Most new cars on the market disgust me. I miss the old BMW and the old Lexus styles. I miss the beautiful SC400 and E39 M5! I miss the Porsche 993 series. The 996 series is good, but the cars don't look as beauitful imo.
On the other hand, i think some companies have improved. Mercedes and Chrysler! I love thier new styles.

I also think it´s better to compare model to model. Except for BMW´s, all the new ones are horrible :x

it's hard to design a new car without any hard criticism, and i think they are running out of ideas for beautiful designs. It's like shoes. This whole "retro" era of bringing back the past is also getting a tad annoying.

I wouldn't say that cars nowadays are "uglier", but some of them do look like they came straight from a concept design. Then you have cars like the Pontiac Aztek that is just straight butt ugly.

I truely think cars looked great before the 40s, nice till the 50s, ok till some of the muscle cars (the 59 corvette, the shelby cobra, the shelby mustang...). I still think old ferrari and lambos look very square. 2003 has been an excellent year in "new" designs... I mean in the 80s and early 90s, you'd never see a manufactured car look close to the prototypes... now it's more and more almost the same but still not quite there...

perhaps we are just getting older, and we arent the "targeted" crowd anymore. We'll all become bitter like gramps yelling about the good ole days when cars looked good. 0X

not all of them
when nissan produced the S13 and R32 it looked nice, then the S14 and R33 came out they looked like shockers. the final models for these series, the S15 and R34 look so much better than previous models. applies to 350Z, i absolutely hated the 300ZX

Woohoo, I'm probably too young to talk about this.
In pretty much every instance I've seen though, older cars look a lot better than new ones. I'm a sucker for the lines of cars like the Datsun 240Z and Fiat 128 Spider. There's also the timeless designs of cars like the Fiat/Ferarri Dino, and the 250 GTO, and the Lamborghini Miura and the like...
...there's just so many, it's hard to pick one that I like the most :o

Like TT said, the regulations are killing the new cars' design. On top of that, when you have engineers and bean counters involved in the design of the car, you have problem!
Usually this trend applies to average mass production cars with the supercars a bit of an exception.

Well cars are different. But old cars were the most beautiful things ever.
Look at this.
The GTO

The Miura

The 550

These cars are beautiful. But things change and todays cars are simply different.

TT: I *love* the muira. A friend of mine has an SV...dios mio! That thing is bloody GORGEOUS!
Did you know that when the Muira was built (and Lamborghini, as usual, had no quality control and was dirt poor), they ended up with 5 reverse gears and one forward. How did they fix it? The engine runs COUNTER clock-wise! Yup. I'm serious!
But those Muira....waaaah beautiful! Honestly, that car is PAINFULLY sexy. Get it in a deep dark blue....like the ex shah of iran car (now in John H.'s hands in New Orleans).

I will probably faint in front of a dark blue Miura SV :D

you pay what you get for.
Nearly all those cars mentioned are luxury sports cars of the past, and most of you are comparing them to today´s luxury Sedans.
My point is I find todays selection and choices of cars better than what was available in the past.
you want crazy, buy TVR
you want elegance and style buy Spyker, or Wiesmann.
As beautiful as a Miura is from the outside. From the inside cars of the past are ugly, uncomfortable, and the build quality is far worse than today.
thats my 2 cents
