Do you think there will be an AMG version of the SLR? I hope so. The quad-turbo V12 from Chrysler ME 4-12 with 800 hp or so will be good
p.s. I know the SLR's V8 is built at AMG.

hell no there wont be an upped version of the SLR it's damn good as it is do you honestly think that AMG can do better than McLaren? that car was built for that engine you can't just drop a bigger engine in there and hope it works. The car is balanced and tuned with that exact engine and layout and Horsepower they won't take the car back from McLaren and give it back to AMG considering they took an SL55 to turn into the SLR not much left of it but it's there.
If MB let AMG so do so to the SLR.. I will lose all respect for MB..

WTF ... the 5.5 liter AMG engine was tuned by mclaren , you want it to be tuned again by AMG ? dont think so , and they will certainly wont put any Chrysler engine in it .

/\/\ that Chrysler engine is actually an AMG engine it's the same one used in the Zonda except it has 4 turbos hooked up to it/\/\
but still this wil never happen they aren't even making enought SLR's to tune them unless they did like 3 of them a year.

Definitely not. I don't think they would be able to extract any more power without jeapordizing the reliability of the car... but thats why we have Brabus for, right?

ok, first off, the SLR was built in the Mclaren factory, second, why the fuk would you wanna compare the SLR to the concept car ME12?! its still in concept stages, and the engine will possibly be detuned...the pre production SLR is 800 hps also, but emissions and shit like that probably forced the germans to detune the car...

People who buy the SLR surely wants top of the line exotic. And u are telling those ppl all of a sudden there's a better version, they are not gonna be happy for sure!!

Rumor had it they couldn't develop a clutch big enought to harness the power. Same with the Audi RS6. The SLR might get the 7Gtronic, or whatever that new 7-speed in the '05 models has.

OK no one was comparing the SLR McLaren to the AMG built Chrysler ME412 he just mentioned it's engine that's it. And it was also mentioned that the SLR is a McLaren built car a few times.

A £300k car, 200mph 0-60 in less than 4secs and you want them to do an AMG version.
Mclaren vs. AMG ..... hmmm... McLaren are a million times better :)
It would be so stupid that i think ths thread needs to be closed. Partly because the rumor is a load of shit and partly because of thinks like i hope it's a manual.
The SLR has been designed... that is all you are going to get  ... until the next Merc-McLaren

haha, I agree with you T-bird...if they did do an AMG version...first of all I would crap my pants if AMG were able to get any more BHP out of that engine than McLaren already has..and second..if AMG did anything to the SLR the performance figures would not be any better especially since all merc would do is make it 2 tons heavier...

For me it doesnt make any sense for an AMG-SLR model either...because the AMG means preparations for big series.....or regular models of merc....whereas the SLR is an asocciation of 2 brand, the McLaren and the Merc, for making a sport car in a few units

yea an SLR-AMG and then BMW can tune the McLaren F1 and make a motorsport version of it to compete. fabulous idea. Chris Bangle can be the stylist of it im sure it would be a hit. give it the ole "flame surface" treatment, it will work wonders on the aerodynamics.

that engine is tuned by AMG, McLaren only did the chassis and other things but they had no influence with the engine what so ever
T-Bird
06-21-2004, 10:36 PM
yes they did they, tore apart that engine which was an SL55 engine and they tuned the bitch way up the engine is definitely flowing with McLaren blood sorry to burst your bubble.

It may get a minor refresh if it stays around for a few years.. But I wouldnt count on a special version unless your talking an outside tuner. Id love to see what a tuner would do if they got their hands on it. (a real one, not a ricer one)

The only problem is that this is McLaren so if they did anything to the body, Anything it would totally fuck up the aerodynamics of the car and they can't change the symbol on the front since that is the intake plenum right there so no big B symbol  and that car is soo perfectly balanced that it could get easily screwed up with alot of mods on the engine. I'm sure those fan styled wheels have an actual purpose to them aswell eventhough they offer a second wheel option.

I don't think there will be an AMG version of the SLR, it's an official Mercedes part now and i don't think Mercedes will let AMG interfere in McLaren deal ...
But i am sure Brabus and the other tuners will do something with the SLR

Well i suspect that it is possible, but the chances are minimal.
Just looking at it's competitors -the Enzo & Carrera GT-, there doesnt seem to be any sign of any further movement into a harder-core verson.
In the case that a SLR AMG is made, i know there will be many upset SLR owners :)

As I read in the tests, there is some tuning work which should be done on SLR. It should be made lighter, have manual gearbox and better feeling of the brakes. But I do not thing, that somebody is able to do it better than McLaren. They should make some more sporty version. Real supersport does not need electricaly set seats, tempomat and automatic gearbox.

nope there wont be a AMG slr...
amg is not as good as mclaren...
and brabus hmm......unlikely cos they wont be able to do anything and
mclaren better than brabus

I don't think that is write. Their are few cars with much more HP than an SLR and is a manual. Maybe MB people just don't like manual all togather they like to sit back and relax while the car accelerate.. :D

I AMG can tune the SLR, we can wonder if RUF will tune the Carrera GT. IMO, i don't think so.

Ok, Lets get some facts straight:
SLR BUILT BY MCLAREN BUT PARTS, AND ENGINE (WHICH WAS BUILT AND TUNED BY AMG) COMES FROM GERMANY. THE ASSEMBLY ONLY TAKES PLACE IN LONDON.
SLR AERODYNAMICS CHANGED AND DESIGN MODIFIED BY MCLAREN FROM ORIGINAL VISION SLR CONCEPT. THATS WHY IT LOOKS THE WAY IT DOES.
ME412 HAS CL65 ENGINE BUT WITH TWO EXTRA TURBOS THATS IT. UNLIKELY TO EVER SEE PRODUCTION.
AMG GOVERNED BY MERCEDES SAFETY STANDARDS, NO OTHER TUNER CAN DO SOMETHING BETTER AND RELIABLY.
AND AS FOR MORE POWER, THERE ARE INSIDERS SAYING SOON THERE WILL A BE A POWER UPGRADE AVAILABLE.....DON'T KNOW RELEASE THOUGH....

actually it's been stated in many articles that McLaren went over that engine with a fine tooth comb fixing whatever they could and the SLR (VISION concept) was built by Mclaren from the SL body design. ME412 Zonda version of the engine not CL65. this is getting really full of stupid ass comments with people thinking that AMG can and would tune the SLR (stupidest thing ever)

I think this is true. As far as I know McLaren never built engines ever. McLaren F1 had a BMW V12. Their Formula 1 cars never used built-in-house engines. And the SLR which is a Mercedes, is powered by Mercedes!
The Zonda uses the old 6.0L 48 valves V12 that was on the last generation S,CL,SL. Current generation none AMG S,SL,CL classes along with Maybach have a 36 valves 5.5L V12. AMG 65 cars have a 36 valves 6.0L V12, which was modified for the ME 4-12.

Zonda uses a 7.3 liter V12 AMG engine with 555bhp.... :)
Its almost the same engine that was used in the SL73 AMG (525bhp)....

The Zonda 7.3L V12 is based on the old 6.0L 48 valves V12.

Well they need to come over here to america then. We have 800,900, 1000 + HP cars just roaming around with no where to go, most with manuals too. ask RC-45, im sure hes ran into on of those BPU +++ Supras.

Hmm...would they? They already have McLaren tune the car........ -_-;; but it wouldn't hurt to do another tune up..lol

LOL - and not just Supras either - we have a number of 900hp+ Vipers, Vettes and Camaros in Houston.
There are a bunch more in the 700hp+ catagory
