Do you think modifying a car by adding downpipes would make a difference or not?

It depends on your mods and car. What car do you have and what kind of mods do you have?

how do you add downpipes to a car? If the car has a turbo then it has a downpipe, and changing it out for a free flowing pipe can help, especially turbo spoolup. I might be wrong but i dont think you can

Depends entirely on the car and how everything is setup. Can you give us more details?

Hey thanks, as of right now, I have put in a new ECU chip (APR), a air kit (Lltek), and a cat back exhaust (APR). I was just curious in the performance if I added NEW downpipes with my 3" exhaust. If there isn't that much improvement then I would rather not fork out any more money right now.

Its a 2000 S4 and I put new tires and rims on it. They are SSR competitions 18X18.5 and running on Michelin Sports Radials....The guy at tirerack said they were the new version of the michelin sports but since I have been driving on them (for about a month) the front tires outside walls are wearing down pretty quickly and I haven't really been hard on them....so a lil concerned about that. Other then that, everything else is stock including my suspension. I would like to lower it with some H&R's but I will be driving this car during the winter so I don't think I wanna lower it becuase of snow. Your in norway, so you would know all about that. So..there u have it. Its a nice little puppy :P

OH yA!! I did a ricer thing and painted my calipers red...its still pretty kick ass and the color is Santorin Blue with a black interior and a metallic trim. thats about it. I know Im going to get bitched at for saying this, but honestly, I don't have a digital camera to take pics. Believe me!! I know nobody will though...oh well. Its your call to believe me or not.

downpipes make a huge difference, i suggest the miltek Downpipes/cats/exhaust, they are very good...the APR is the best ECU also, i like how you can change the modes, and i suggest upgrading your diverter valves to heavier duty ones, cause the plastic stocks ones will go out when running higher boost, Toyman makes a really good short shifter for the S4 also. Miltek quotes 40HP gain with their downpipes and exhaust

Oh wow! 40hp gain? thats intense. Brembo do you also have an S4? Or do you have a porsche? I was confused with the red calipers but it says porsche on them. I think Ill look around for some downpipes now. Ill probably see if APR sells them. Also, I don't really push my car hard that often so do you think I need to upgrade my diverter valves? Ill probably work it hard 2-3 times a week for about 10 min. And about those tires, Im kinda pissed. Oh well  What tires would you recommend instead of those michelins? But ya...those downpipes seem like the way to go. Next, if I do wanna lower the car, and you live in norway how much snow do you usually go through? Here in Michigan, I usually go through about 2-3 inches regularly and it can get a little higher then that. Plus, we have huge chunks of ice that are in the roads. I worried about ruining my front spoiler if I do lower it.

i highly reccoment the h&r lowering springs, i installed them on a S4 before, and they were 1 3/4 inch drop, it was very low...and you will have to replace the facotry shocks eventually if you lower it, the stock ones dont like to be pushed harder by lowering springs, i seem to like the toyo tires, and the nitto 555s
the diverter valves are cheap and WILL go out if you use the higher two modes on the ECU. they are internally plastic and will start to leak, and its a cheap fix

alright...Ill look around for some good diverter valves. Thanks for the advice.

good suggestion. lol that pic is crazy by the way. That road looks like a blast also. Thanks for the help...now I know if i do lower it, then I won't have any trouble with the snow.

hahaha great stuff. My family and i drove in "europe" once...well it was Ireland. Those roads curve all over the place . Up and down and all around and then you got those blind bends!hahah That was one of my favorite parts about the whole trip was driving! We rented a lil 4 banger BMW lol and my dad went flying over this little hill and when we came back down, we tore the underskirt. hahaha. I can't tell you how much fun it was! Compared to USA streets, Europe roads kick ass! That makes me think is that why European drivers dominate most of the racing events around the world? It has to be!

I typed the "europe" thing like that to show that it was mainland Europe. I know Ireland is part of europe....Im not retarded...don't worry.

If you get a good down pipe from the turbo back it can make a big difference. My nissan silivia s15 made 40rear wheel kilowatts more with the help of a full exhaust from turbo back and performance air filter. Now this just wasnt the exhaust/filter that made the gains it was because my boost pressure went from 7-8 psi to almost 13psi thanks to the increased flow. If you have a internally gated turbo then a seperate waste gate pipe does wonders for response and power.
Here is a picture of my dump/down pipe with seperate waste gate pipe that joins further down for the s15:

I also got some made up for my twin turbo 1jz supra:

good stuff...as of right now though, kinda broke on money to do mods to my car. But I was just getting good idea of what kinda outcome i would get from it and all. Thanks for the input. From what I have been hearing, downpipes can make a big difference if mods on the exhaust are there.
