Mazda sucks-
From the forum below-
"This just in:

Just got a phone call from budaman, who had just got off a conference call with MNAO. Apparently they are revising the RX-8 horsepower figures: the Manual is being revised down 3.6% to 238hp, and the Auto down 4.5% to 197hp.

Anyone who has already purchased an RX-8 will be receiving a letter from Mazda offering two alternatives:

1. Mazda will buy back the car. (He didn't have the full details - they'll be in the letter.)
2. Mazda will provide free scheduled servicing for the duration of the standard warranty plus a $500 debit card.

Basically the same deal that they offered after the 2001 Miata was found to be down on power too. Owners will have 30 days to decide.

Personally, I'm amazed that they repeated such a basic blunder, but I know which of the options I'll be taking (and it ain't "return the car" )."

"Current owners and those who take delivery by Tuesday will get a $500 credit and free scheduled maintenance for the warranty period ("approx value $1260")."

Here is a dyno from the RX-8 forum-
Looks like it is overated more than what they say.

Any official sources on this topic?
Why does it say '94 RX-7 on the dyno result?
Should the red lines represent the RX8, how come they don't go to 9000rpm?

EU version had 238 from the beginning - I guess they had problems with EURO 4 emissions ...
Anyway, I've driven it and it is enough ...

Yes of course, I see it now. How stupid of me. Damn, I should get straight to bed after playing squash. I was too freakin' tired last night.

Rotary engine --- 2-rotor, water-cooled.
Displacement --- 654cc (x 2-rotor)
Max. Output --- 231ps/177kW @ 8200rpm
Max. Torque --- 211Nm @ 5500rpm
Compression Ratio --- 10.0
Fuel Tank Capacity --- 61 Litres
Acceleration --- (0 - 100 km/h) 6.4 sec
Top Speed (km/h) --- 235

These are official values from the Mazda UK..

Official is 231hp at 8200rpm (car can go easyl 9000 in the vid so we can have 238hp exactly..)

Other forum result 178.. Look at difference 60 hp... It is a very huge value.. I think there is a problem about Dyno..
Same on tork value 123?? 211?? nearly difference 100..

Despite the rotary power and RX8 media hype, they do have their downsides. But this just shows shotty attention to detail from the factory.

What ever their objective ratings most reviewers seem to like the car in a subjective sense.

I would prefer a nice 1995+ 3rd gen rx=7. Amazing cars.

Man what a blunder/downer. I was really hoping Mazda would be successful with this one, but this is not the kinda publicity they need with such stiff competition in the segment from all angles. Argh
