If they get a two door M version I'll be happy until then this is way too slow for a BMW as said by Top Gear "slow for the 60's" times. I'd stick to a VW or Ford

I agree but i doubt itll happen since that is what the z4 is for. but an m version of the z4 would be greatly appreciated.

I think the car is not that slow even for a BWM.
The petrol version 120i has 150bhp.
The Diesel version has 163 Bhp
0-60: 7.9secs
top speed of 137mph.
If u compare that with the Audi a3 2.0 TDI
Power: 140 Bhp
0-60: 9.5 secs
top speed of 129mph.
I think it is very good and in a years time you'll see them everywhere. :D
But i do have to say it is not very pretty.

With such low horsepower rating, I don't think a RWD platform will make alot of difference. RWD is an advantage, but with tons of bad points, I think the RWD won't make up for it. For one, the Mazda 3 Hatchback give it a good run for the money.
PS. sorry about the big quote...

The article says that the cars will be at their first customers the 18th of September. But these cars are on their way to the introducing show by BMW probably to take place in Sweden and/or Norway.
They also say that instead of twisting the key to start the engine they have gone for a similar solution as in the Honda S2000 with an engine start button, sweet :-)

Here´s a pic of that not only the button bit look at the key, pretty damn cool for such a small car :D

Well I'm not really a fan of the first moment for the BMW 1 design, but it's not that bad looking either and if you see the competetion... There aren't many good looking middle class hatchbacks. The A3 is very nice IMO, and the alfa 147 is nice, but the rest (Golf,307,...) is ok. Not ugly, but nothing special. This is something different at least. And since it's a BMW it will probably also drive better.
So I'm looking forward to this. Oh and 163hp from a 2.0 turbo diesel engine  That is a lot!! 7.9sec 0-60mph = very impressive

It's easiy: if it is not a RWD (or at least AWD) then it's not a car. So basicaly 1 series is the only car in class ...
