How about the Cayenne Turbo? But if you're using it to go offroad (why else do you want a SUV anyway?), can't beat the hummer H1 or jeremy's favourite choice, Landrover.

look at this one. this company made this car off of a Ford platform and their sayin it doesnt look like a H2.
http://www.rockcrawler.com/features/newsshorts/03february/avanti_14.jpg

look at the rest of their shit on their site, their cars are hideous.

www.avantimotors.com

as far as SUVs go, i dont know, not really a big fan, if i had the money and needed one i would probably buy a H1 or something else that could tow shit and work well off-road. as for the street i think i would buy a Typhoon, its smaller then X5 and older but its fast as hell

EDIT: this is a Typhoon, in case you never saw one, they didnt make too many. It has a 4.3 liter V6 with a turbo that puts out about 270hp(i think) it has AWD. 0-60 in about 5.3. its ugly but its fast, their is a Saudi Arabian version with a little more power and setup a little differently to handle smooth dirt roads, too, other then that they arent really off-road vehicles

Not my kind of car, but if I'd have to own one, I'd move to US and buy a Ford Excursion

And a Mini LMAO

X5 is Ok, HOWEVER not the current one as they are returning to BMW dealerships as if they are going out of fashion! They are returning looking like someone has removed the suspension.............which had in fact just broken. The updated model has been revised. Humm talking about BMW I am a little shocked at some news recently, I will post it up in a bit.......TBC

I don't like SUVs at all. Just a waste of space if you ask me.

If I HAD to name one, it would be the Alfa Romeo Kamal concept. But that's on looks alone, because the idea of Alfa Romeo building an SUV makes my stumach turn upside down. It's almost as bad an idea as the diesel engines (or, in the future, GM engines) for Alfa Romeos.

Some people call me a purist. I don't have a clue what they're talking about...

Land Rover.

08-28-2003, 01:16 AM
If we're going for pure offroad purpose and effectiveness, i think there is no replacement for LandRover/RangeRover. But, if i had to drive it everywhere, i would have to have a Cayenne Turbo..only until Audi's Pikes Peak Quattro comes out. Thats about what i would do.

i hate suv's, but there is a small list of suv's that i like.

1. Lexus RX300
2. BMW X5
3. Land Rover Range Rover
4. Hummer H1

besides these all other suv's are plain garbage.

KaBlookie

For me it depends. For all-out off-roading, I'd definitely go for the Hummer H1, and if I was on a slightly tighter budget, a Land Rover. But if I would have to choose something to be my daily driver as well as my off-roader, I'd definitely have to go with a Cayenne Turbo, or (again) if I was on a tighter budget, an X5 4.6 (with separate off-road wheels/tires)

BADMIHAI

How about a monster truck?

I hate SUVs! FUCK THEM!

For a real off-roader, I'd take the H1 (the H2 is crippled off-road), or a Range Rover!

If I was forced to buy an SUV, I would buy

... the X5 if I would use it mainly on the road
... the XC90 if I needed something practical
... the Range Rover if I had a lot of money to spend.

i love the landcruiser 100 series. its a good car and very practical, on the other hand the x5 is not so practical but just as nice. It handles quite well and our suspension has not broken yet...(most x5's have air suspension at the rear) which is mistaken by some ppl for broken suspension i gather!

Id get the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the old Lambo Hummer Competitor, or... the new Lexus (Land Cruiser Equivalent), my friend's dad just bought one for $120,000 and that thing is Uber Nice.

I have the same idea as draak666, the X5 Lemans is fabulous!!!!They have put an 6.0 liter V12 700bhp in it, changed the optic and put the M3 E46 mirrors on it and I like the cayenne turbo.

I'm with Oeggermo, I have a video of Hans Schtuck driving the X5 LeMans, that V12 engine is insanely loud and for an SUV, the thing handles like a go-cart. However, in a more practical sense, I think I'd go for a LandRover or a Defender, certainly not one of the American behemoths that have become so popular in the last few years, and by no means would I consider buying a Porsche at all. The fact that the Cayenne exists is enough reason for me never to consider buying a Porsche at all.

first off not a h1 all civlian humves are crap like the people who own them. try a real military one out. they suprizingly are crap too. 6.5 v8 desiel motor 180hp 430 pounds of tourque if i rember correctly. gm thm-350 tranny the best thing on it. i dont know about the scocer mom version but its most liky crappy too. bmw x5 not in north america at least. ford fix or repair daily. any thing made by cadiliac also sucks. escalades are for dumb asses. moving on lexus rx300 and 330 totaly incapbile of any offroading. toyota 4runner what did you do! it used to drive like a truck now like a car. thats the only thing i liked about it. or used to. mercedes g wangon we know who owns mercedes now so haha your game is up! you are now in the piece of crap catagory ! now the ones i do like. the volvo with the t6 and awd twin turbo awd suv i like the concpet. the infinity fx based on the g35 chasis cant go wrong their and like every other nissian and infinity has the 3.5 v6 nice motor. not so much an suv but that might be its best quailty

i believe that if you are in the market for a luxurious suv the range rover is the choice, its got presence. The BMW x5 would be my second choice, what i actually like on this car are the looks, its driving dynamics and its built quality,i dont like the fact that its not up to the game as far as offroading is concerned

Best SUV? That would be none at all... but If I had a choice I would agree with AlienDB7.

How about the Cayenne Turbo?

Chaos in 1983!
01-12-2004, 09:31 PM
Of course the ultimate SUV is the hummer H1...but being more civilized I´d say the LX470/Land Cruiser...

And on the looks...the FX45 is the best looking SUV out there...

They're STATION WAGONS for pete sakes !!!

zevolv

most of them aren't station wagons, explorers, expeditions, excursions, tahoes, suburbans, land cruisers, pathfinders, durangos, those are definetly not station wagons in any way.

If I raised the ride height on my grampa's ford LTD wagon, I'd pretty much get a ford explorer. no wait, the LTD had more interior space, lol.

they're station wagons with a higher tendency to flip over.

It would have to be the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, although the new BMW X5 4.8is looks fine and has more than enough performance for me

On a more typical note, a Hummer H1 or H2 would be the definitive all-terrain vehicle (this side of a M1 Abrams tank)

SUV'S just dont appeal to me, they are just plain pointless... 98% of the suv owners dont go offroad. for the 2% that does its perfectly fine. for the dirt: H1 for the road: cayenne turbo

suzuki samurai.....seriously, this car will go where no big-ass suv's can dream of going. i you are a serious off-raoder, you'll know what i mean.

You're the man

In off-road goes where the suv's can't go and much more, low weight, little. Easy doing everything =P Somethings needs more power, but if you know what you're doing you won't stop.

A few days ago, I just passed in a place that a Nissan Patrol GR and a Land Rover Defender couldn't pass =P

I'm putting a Suzuki Swift Gti motor in my samurai. Let's see how it's going to be.

About the Suv's, X5 is the most beautiful but Le Mans version.
Don't forget about ML55 AMG, H1 is the "father" of jeeps. Lambo suv is more like a prototype =P
Cayenne Turbo and VW Touareg 3.0 TDI.
"jeeps" to be afraid to ride with them off-road?! not for me =)

I hate SUVS. I hate small station wagons with raised ride heights that are called SUVs by marketing geeks.

that said, I wouldn't mind having a lowerd (4-6 inch drop) supercharged 5.4 liter V8 with 500 bhp and 500 ft/lbs torque Ford Expedition. Does that engine sound familar (Ford GT)?

Nop, it's not exactly the same engine, but it's got all the same parts...

Remember this past year Ford Lightning SVT 150 pick-up concept?
Well, that 5.4 liter supercharged V8 IS the same engine mounted in the Ford GT with its 500 Hp and 500 Lb-Ft of torque, not a masterpiece of an engine (like a Ferrari NA V12, if you ask me), but gets the job done in an amazing way ;)

I think for me it would be the BMW X5 but they (BMW) call it a SAV (Sport Activity Vehicule) so ... what else ? A Porsche Cayenne Turbo would be my next choice and then a Range Rover but i thought that the Range and the other americans 4x4 were not really SUV.

I don't want to defend the motor industry or their marketing schemes, but when was the last time you saw a "station wagon" climb a rocky pendant of about 30° steep? or passed over 3 ft of water?.

I know 98% of their owners will never use their SUV's off road, but that doesn't mean they don't have awesome capabilities, and good SUV's are defitively NOT station wagons, no matter most people use them as such.
