Movies about racing:
- Le Mans - fabulous sounds from a Porsche 917, Ferrari
- Grand Prix - amazing opening screen with multiple camera shots of a spinning tach and revving engines
Movies with good car chase scenes
- Ronin
- The French Connection
Others:
- Rendezvous (Ferrari through streets of Paris during dawn) - spawned the Getaway in Stockholm series

Nope..Get halickis Deadline auto theft on dvd.
The 30 minutes of stunts they shot for gone in 60 seconds 2 is on there as a seperate feature. He died during the filming so its incomplete. Its good because deadline auto theft is just gone in 60 seconds redone, streteched, with somethings from junkman put in.
Gone in 60 seconds 2 has a car called the slicer which is shaped like a wedge and goes under cars. Kinda hokey, but damn cool to watch the destruction it causes.
vanishing point.
Two lane blacktop bored the crap out of me. I never made it to the end sadly.
LOL - Two Lane Blacktop is the Easy Rider of car movies... :P
You need to watch it in the frame of mind that it is 1971 and you are doing the cross country trip in the '55.
I have watched Two Lane Blacktop a ridiculous number of times.. LOL  - I often have it playing in the background when I do projects around the house... :)

Does that mean you have to get high to enjoy it..
It is hard to relate when you were born in 1981...
Actually in Rendezvous the car wasn`t Ferrari but it was Renault. For me the best is Italian Job(original)

Many good car movies have been pointed out. I'd add
TRANSPORTER
some pretty nice rubberburning. + all 8 BMW films.
^^those BMW films were quite good :D ... the one with James Brown... The Star
Gumball 3000 8)
A small request- could you nawe the cars appearing in these movies. Not all of us have seen them all- and the "cast" would say a lot about them:) Thank you.
If you wanna some really weird race with crazy-designed car, try "The Deathrace 2000" -the first movie of S.Stallone.Bet you will be amazed!!!!
If wanna see same old-school car in action on a desert and a bunch of big-breasted evil woman (yes!!!i find it strange too:)-i.e. Porsche 356-try "Faster Pussycat! Kill, kill, kill!".They should be on eMule both-and both are worth dl-unsimilar to anything else what you can see!!!

And the best one, my all-time favourite car movie...
Gumball Rally (1976) ---> nice fight between the Cobra and the Daytona.
I agree. It was awesome, the cars where the real thing and the sounds are the real sounds. If I remember correctly it also features a Mercedes 300SL gullwing and Jaguar E-Type.
As for the Rendezvous movie - I have heard so many things about it. Disputes about both driver and car.
The most likely so far, for me, is a Ferrari 275GTB driven by Jackie Ickx.
As I am going to drive in a 275GTB 4 cam around Europe in 2 weeks, I'll be able to match the sound at least. 8)
to irrational_i:car in Rendezvous was renault alpine.

Le Mans and Grand Prix are both unbelievably good.
Gone in sixty seconds is alright.

I never really liked bullit. I guess the lack of plot bothered me a bit. It also seemed to be a little slow paced for me.

Smokey and The Bandit 1 and 3. The second one in the trilogy blew with some damn elephant. But 1 and 3 kicked ass. Gotta love Sheriff Beuford T. Justice!

Fast and Furious is so bad its funny. Not the kind of film you can seriously watch if you know anything about cars! Not seen 2 fast 2 furious yet as i don't really want to! That Driven film about champ cars is awful too. Days of thunder was ok. There aren't really any good films about cars or racing that i've seen. Lots with good car chases though. Italian job (original), Ronin, Bourne Identity, most bond films. Love the bit in the last terminator movie with the guy drifting the massive crane thing! Impressive stuff!

Yeah, FF is just plain rubbish. It promotes NOS and "Uncle Ben" more than anything else.

Just saw a clip of The Bourne Supremacy, it looks like some pretty awesome chase scenes in there. Can't wait for that to come out.

In my opinion Le Mans and Grand Prix are some of the bests films ever made....also ive got very good memories of Bullit, and the rendezvous film is very good actually as well.....and there are other funny and quite ok films, such as the days of thunder, or too fast too furious
