American F1 Driver

Anyone here on the forum planning to do the Red Bull F1 driver search? Apparently you are supposed to be 16 or 17 years old and Im 19 so Im a little pissed that I can' t try. If anyone is doing it from the U.S, tell me about it; it sounds awesome.

Old news. They've been trying to do this for the past 3 years, maybe 4, I can't remember. But nothing has happened yet.

Well, Ive just started seeing commericals about it. And if you go to www.redbulldriversearch.com they show some stuff that you can do. I just thought someone on the forum should try it out. They are having go cart tryouts across the U.S right now and if your around 15 or 16, look up on this website (that might not be the right address, but search for it) and find out where its going on near you and tell us how you do. That would be kickass if someone actually made it on this forum. :shock:

the US doesn't have the open-wheeled structure like europe to breed F1 drivers. all the open wheeled series' in the US arent looked upon the F1 teams like the european counterparts .... its not sad its just that its a different world across the pond getting into open wheeled cars.

Well you are on an international forum.. And frankly some of us haven't seen under 18 in quite some time. It'll be 5 years the end of this month for me.

thats the point of red bull driver search..is to give you financial backing

i don' think its sad for america. its just another training program like every other sport has

too old, plus racing requires expreince and skill (can't tell you if i got it, because i have never driven on a track, good bet would be i don't have half as much as i would like to), but why are we so desperate to have an american driver in f1, does it matter where the drivers are from, schumi is german, should i not cheer him on; even the best us drivers from nascar or cart/irl would not be able to compete in f1, so looking for a gocart racer who is young makes sense, but gocart racing is not as big in us as in other countries, so quality of talent is lower to begin with, first red bull should develop a gocart series for different age groups that would gain wide acceptance and popularity, that is how you get the drivers, then you can skim the best and put them into various other formulas, and if they succeed, f1 teams will find them, that is if they are good enough

i do hope this red bull driver search would be successful and the US could produce another F1 driver. it's been 11 years since an american, michael andretti, was behind the wheel of an f1 car.
