I've just joined the forum and wanted to say ciao to everyone!
I'm an 18 year old living in Cheshire, England and am driving a WRX as things stand - hopefully can move up something more meaty as I get older. 8)
Thanks for hosting the site Jabba. :!:

Yep it's not mine it's Dad's toy and you're correct about insurance, I can only get insured on it for very short stints of time otherwise it would involve remortgaging the house whenever one wishes to go out for a spin. Liverpool and victoria want £2500 Full Comp as a named driver, so you can see why it is best to just ring up and say "can he be insured for a week?", and then take it from there.
I think to be honest getting a car capable of the exciting side of 100mph should never be bought before you're 25, just costs an arm and a leg in insurance alone otherwise.
I'll try to get some pictures when the car's back home tonight, thank you for the hello.

Cool glad we got that clear we've had a some bullshitters with fantastic cars like evos, porches and even a maybach who turned out to be bullshitters so when you posted WRX and 18 yr old i got suspicious as my insurance is £400 on my dads policy for my 998cc mini  so not many 18 yr olds can afford a WRX.Pics will be cool, i'm glad you didn't try and pass it off as yours. :D 8) stick around and i'm sure you'll like it here

How much does it cost to insure your 3 beasts? Waiting to hear 1 big #.

Well to be honest no one wants to insure them full stop. It was almost cheaper to buy the whole insurance company then it was to insure them.
I manage to get a good deal though as I have alot of other "normal" cars on the company fleet that are good business for them and of course if they want to have these cars then they have to take the Ferrari and Lambo as well.
The Lambo works out at just over £8,500 and the Ferrari at £7,200 per year with a £500 excess and I think thats pretty good considering a rear bumper costs £5,800 and a front one £10,500 on the Lambo...meaning that there are no cheap parts to replace on a lambo and damage etc is almost certainely going to be worth paying the excess for.... in order for it to be put it through on the insurance.

Good point....clearly cost is relevant to the amount you make. To me 15700 Pounds or 39,000 CDN dollars is a very large amount. That would buy me a pretty nice car and still cover the insurance. But then again you own companies and I am a student.

The running costs can be huge as well....the main one being fuel....about £3.50 per gallon of shell optimax. Driven hard I am lucky to see 5 MPG in the Lambo.

Really works that shell optimax i saw a dyno day of new minis in mini magazine and the cooper S models running optimax made around 30bhp more at the flywheel than the non opitmax cars, BP do a similar one aswell I think dunno what that's like

30bhp  Are you sure?? I run optimax in my car, the main difference I get is more miles per tank, but then I am harld running the most powerful beast about lol
welcome to JW :D
im even surprised you get insured on a WRX at 18 for a week.and £2500 for the year is sure worth it at 18 if you can get it,i dunno were you did though coz a friend of mine asked for a MR2 turbo and they all said no till he is 25 and it was £2500 for him to insure a saxo VTS under his parents name.so a WRX is slightly out of reach IMO and its £967 for me on a saxo VTR for a year under my dads name.
anyway good to have a new member here at JW :)

**EDIT**
it got a bit confused in my memory - it actually made a fair bit more torque not bhp still interesting though :)
Quote- "there were two standard mini cooper Ss of Mark O'Donnell and Jason Southern- jasons running on shell optimax
power and torque figures
Marks cooper s (ordinary fuel)
192.4 bhp at flywheel @ 7045rpm
155.8lb/ft @ 4330rpm
jasons cooper s runnning optimax
196.5bhp @6615 rpm (considerably lower rpm)
170.9lb/ft@4105 rpm (again reached at lower rpm)
jason's comment- OPTIMAX ROCKS!
Where the 30 bhp came from in my mind was that the cars both made 30 bhp more than the BMW figures- maybe they were slightly conservative. BTW i'll check my facts better next time but it took me ages to find the mag- i really must tidy my room

gis,
Yes L&V were the only place to give a sensible quote - the rest were similar to prices Jabba stated for his Italian cars. I don't even think I'll be able to get insured now as everyone (Tesco etc.) are clamping down hard on anyone under 25... the days of being young and having a car with a handsome bit of poke seem to be numbered - but that's okay, as I'll be learning to ride a motorbike soon. :)
I see you're in my academic year, are you presently doing your A-Levels?
All the best, Nico.
at the moment no schooling for me as i aint got a slight little bit of an idea what i want to do.sumthin i will have to think about if i wanna do schooling in september. :)
insurance are sure cutting back on what cars anyone under 25 can insure.as i said £2500 for a saxo VTS is crazy.and thats only got 120hp.im on the VTR as i said for £967 and thats the cheapest we could get and under my dads name.my cousin just bought the ford Sport KA,well about a month and a half ago,he is on his own insurance and is paying £1445 he is 18,that is also with the pass plus certificate he got which knocks off some money and i think he said without that they would have charged him £1800.insurance sure as hell sucks here

Yeah it does really suck for us young drivers- guess what tesco quoted me in my own name on my 998cc mini-nearly £1100 i nearly had a heart attack then we put it on my dads name still £400 with me my dad and mum insured on it- not that they get to drive it much  (if at all) I heard somewhere that its because of uninsured/ unlicensed drivers which to a certain extent i can believe- they seem to just get let off with a slap on the wrists and a ban (usually they don't have a license) and simply do it again- probably drive home from the court house :P

I'd put those differences in figures entirely down to the differences in cars, not fuel. Unless the car is tuned (advanced ignition timing to the point before detonation at that fuel's octane rating) then there is NO reason why one car should produce more on one fuel than another.
The only thing would be if the timing was already advanced beyond that for normal unleaded, then the engine began pinking, and the ECU pulled timing, hence reducing the power, and on the Optimax it runs fine.
I still run on optimax when i can as its a better quality fuel, and contains cleaners (so ive heard), ive heard of some of the cheaper fuels at some stations being mixes of god knows wat and really not good to put through your engine!!!

^^ Exactly!!! God fuckin knows, but its pissing me off!! I want to drive my parents cars, but the insurance is fuckin crazy, so no chance till im over 25.
Even though ive driven over 30,000 miles up and down the country since passing my test 3 years ago, and have never (touch wood) had a serious accident, or any road offences.
Takes the piss.

Well they both are supposed to be standard- my intital thoughts were modifications or that one car had less miles than the other but the magazine and the garage put it down to the difference in fuel- not knowing how much expierinece the writer/ garage has i couldn't comment on their reliability, it would be interesting to see if there are any independant studies/ tests as this may be a one off. Still i found it interesting that both depsite being stock produced way more than BMW figures
BTW i put any old unleaded through my mini :D

um pics aren't working though the image tags look right- there is a list of free picture hosts that allow remote linking here http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9421
**EDIT** they work if you take the address without the tags and paste into a new window
ahh an asenal fan, don't see that much of the car though :P  Still that huge bonnet scoop just jumps out at you

hehe yeah we are a suspicious lot- usually we have to ask for a custom pic now in the what do you drive or ride section, as we've had a fair few bullshitters. just use one of the hosts in the adress i posted who allow remote linking like photbucket, i guess btinternet don't allow you to remote link. but the urls are clickable now :D so thats fine

wow... im amazed how much insurance is accross the pond.
i was quoted by Citzens Insurance when i was 20 for full coverage of a 2003 WRX @ $2012 per year (today, 1111.60 Pounds) i also have no traffic tickets, accidents reporting my fault. when i turn 24, it goes down to almost, or more then 1/2 retaining the same driving record. some companies do it @ 25 here too, mine is just a bit different.
if insurance was that expensive, i think fewer young people would drive here, and more would do the mass transit thing.... but we really arent setup for that.
i would hate not having a car :P

Well it is a similar problem in Canada.
My friend(he's about 25(7)) is paying 8000$CDN for a brand new Jeep Liberty. His first car.
A couple of other friends are paying 2500+ for used Civics.
My parents dont have a car so Im tottaly fucked. And even if they did they probably would not let me insure my car on their name. They know Id probably crash and die...
Plus my job is not stable. I work at home and sometimes across the street as a comp tech...so I dont have a constant income :? One month I can make a grand, the other I can make 50$...so as long as Im studieng Im kind of screwd as far as owning a car goes...
Unless I move to the US were its cheap as hell.

Don't get me started on insurance! I was slightly shocked at Jabba's insurance costs!! There goes any plan of owning a Ferrari........period lol.
combsie66, by your statemen "no major accidents" does that mean you have had a prang??
Did I mention not getting me started on insurance?? Gad damn it pisses me off. To be fair, my insurance is not too bad now. Next year should be around the £500 mark. (1st year £1259 2nd £750 3rd year £500) I was on my partents insurance before then.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh this country, don't you just love it!
