I want to buy a new and better digital camera to replace my sony cybershot 5 mega pixel. although the picture quality is good it is to slow starting up to catch cars flying by. what are some good choices to think about, but it has to have

1. 4 mega pixels or higher
2. instantanious start up and snap
3. reasonably sized (not the size of a dog)
4. long optical zoom (or have attachable zoom lenses)
5. possibly come with a remote control

price is not really an issue but paying $5,000 is too much for any digital camera

Well if you would like to invest some money, I'd suggest the Canon Powershot Pro 1, the same one I got time ago: easy for amateurs, great quality, good speed, very good zoom, 8 MP (will last long)... IMO it's better to buy the more MP you can, to make your new camera last long compared to new models ;)
And it comes with remote control ;)

Cost, around 1000 USD

When you get the camera, be sure to tell us what it is and how much you paid. :D

I've got the Sony F828 DSC Cybershot, an awesome digital camera. Has 8mega pixels, 7x optical zoom, and a 2-2,8/7,1-51 Carl Zeiss lense. I grabbed in jap for about $1,400 Australian dollars Dec last year (with 500mb flash card). I think the price is round about the $1000 USD mark. It's got fabulous picture quality, burst mode (up to i think 10 or so?), and 'macro' mode for them close ups. In terms of snapping fast stuff, it can be a little bit of a challenge with this baby - it takes some getting used to because its still a digital camera.

Hey btw TT, is the Cannon Power shot pro 1 the digital-slr camera? If so, it was the camera i was contemplating to grab instead of the sony... consumer loyalty got to me :)

Nope, the Pro 1 is the best you can get w/o entering the SLR technology.. but it's described as "SLR alike"

yep TT is right, i ahve one of these and a 10D and as long as you are taking shot that are not of object moving very vyer quickly you almost* might as well ahve the pro1. It has a L series lens and they are about as good as it gets.
