I like many other people have some kind of fascination with the Nissan Skyline, I dont know why its not particularly a pretty car but it has some kind of appeal to it. Its probobly more of a thing in the US because Skylines are not offered here. You cant just go to a Nissan Dealership and say id like to order up an R34. Well why not ? due to some kind of DOT and EPA regulations the car isnt offered here as a production model. The only way i know to get one is to spend a ridiculously large amount of money with a california based company called MOTOREX ,A 99 r34 it would cost us about 94,000 us dollars to purchase and this is after they are done raping the car of horsepower for emissions purposes. For many years there have been rumors that the skyline would come out as a production car in the US. This i Believe is Highly Unlikley.

some thoughts

R34 aren't legal for street use anyways. Show and display only. Mainly due to OBDII compliance. I can't remember what year the cutoff point is. I believe it is 1996. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. If you are in fact serious about getting one I'd check out these two sites:

www.rbmotoring.com

www.freshalloy.com and go to the Skyline GT-R forum, look up a man named Sean Morris, he used to work at Motorex, now owns RB Motoring and has an R34 show car. His user name is "tyndago".

i have heard bad stuff w/ MotoREX, a friend of mine's friend, got a skyline not too long ago and he has since changed 2 engines and returned the car. Their customer service IMO isnt so good. :?

Bringing a Skyling in the U.S. and upgrading it with Blitz will make is as expensive as a 996 Turbo. So why not just buy the Turbo instead?

My thanks to everyone who replied really awesome stuff, Altezza thanks for the links to DOT i did find a full blown 180 page report on the skyline all the tests it went through and it was pretty in depth. Still dont see what the big deal is anyway we have cars on the road here that are in way worse condiditons most States dont even require inspections.
Caplax40 thats quite ineresting that you say that cause all of our insurance companys in the US do not even list the skyline as an insurable model. The recommendation was to insure the car as a collectable. So that may suggest it isnt street legal, According to motorex all of thier skylines are street legal , then again Drive 4ever states the cars from motorex tend to fall apart, and if thats the case 94,000 is ridiculous at that point i could look for a viper , lambo, or a porsche. I think that skylines as good as they are are probobly nothing more than tiff says its a really expensive Playstation.

Thanks for all your thoughts :D

importing a skyline is a waste of money because they still have to add on us emission parts so it will pass. You should just wait until they bring the real thing over in about 2006 brand new not used.

there's no point in importing a skyline to the US for the money that is required. it's a great bargain over in japan, but for the money you can have so many nicer cars. unless you really want the exclusivity factor.

Right. The idea is to insure the car for what you think the value of it is. The guy here in town with the R32 GT-R has it insured for $30,000 (what he paid, 2nd hand for it). If the cars go through all the procedures at Motorex, then they are of course street legal. But they must be 1989-1996 models, as they were made before the OBDII compliance came into effect in America. So you have all the R32 and two years of the R33 line-up to choose from. 1997-2002 (R33, R34) can still be imported, but can not be street legal and must be on a show and display status (i.e. no more than 2500 miles per year and a bunch of other restrictions). Hope it helps. And as far as if it's worth it...well to each his own. If you're into the import scene (ahem, none rice) I don't know of any other car that would get so much attention and have the potential to become a huge powerhouse. Plus figure in that the guy with the R32 paid 30 grand for it.....well, that's less than an STi or Evo VIII.....

I think that at this point ill be happy driving it in videogames, When and if it ever comes to the US as a standard production car it by then will have lost its luster cause by then every daddys boy will have one and it will be another ME 2 car.
thanks again for all your info caps and everyone else who threw in thier two cents, it seems although probobly a really fun toy still a little too expensive. it would be cheaper to move to japan
