is it worth buying?

Yes and No. There are some problems, I can get more details if you require.

All in all a second hand DB7 is very good value........hang on do you mean second hand??

Band new, have you seen the DB7 GT, I would give my left nut for that car.........although, does not handle the same as a 355, but they are aimed at different types of people.

so the gt is the best one?

The GT is sure a sweet car IMO!

It's one of the most beautiful cars in the world, but there's a bit of a reliability issue. Very good value if you can find one without too many major problems. It's hand built so things may just fall apart. The electrical system isn't exactly troublefree either.

A new DB7 is fine if you don't care about depreciation, at least you get the warranty so it doesn't break your wallet when it's time for repair.

Still, the DB7 is one fine car, the sound and look alone are well worth the price :D

The DB7 GT has a bit more power and slightly better handling. Not too sure about the look though, I like the look of the DB7 Vantage more.

Yep, the GT is by far the best one in my eyes.

Some don't like it's styling because it has a more agressive look to it, a stiffer suspension and it has more HP(435 in stead of 420).

You can check everything about the cars on:

http://www.astonmartin.com/start.html

But in my oppinion the DB7 isn't such a good buy. Why? Well it doesn't perform so good for the price that their asking. Still, it all depends what you're looking for, if you want class, you can hardly beat an Aston .

I think the styling of an Aston is very beautiful, however I was hoping it would be more reliable, seems there is the same problem with TVR. Why must such nice looking cars be such poorly made?

Here's a Aston that I like, the AMV 8 (still a concept):

nearly right Zippo...you mean if you want dull and weight, you can hardly beat an Aston

There's no garantee off course that it will be well made BUT it has a new engine and the whole car is a new concept and not a further developpement of the DB7 (like the GT). So I expect it to be better. Let's hope it will

I agree Zippo, I dont think they are very dull Jabba, but heavy, they might be.

what if the ferrari was painted black and the aston bright red?

it would look even worse !!! thats why they are usually in that horrible dull green

For the number of cars aston makes each year, it's kinda hard for them to collect reliability data for the car. It's hand built too, so the consistency is always a problem. On top of that, DB7 is built on the decade old XJS platform. After all, it's all about the look!

I heard they're coming out with the DB9 in 2005 (saw a spy video). The "baby aston" V8 (AMV8 concept) is pretty nice too. The DB9 and V8 will be using a new aluminium platform so performance and reliability should improve. 0X

i was only joking. dont get me wrong i love ferraris (more than life itself). I plan on getting a 93 512 tr and a 355 both red with tan interiors. i still think aston martin makes a good looking car.

08-19-2003, 04:32 PM
hehe, well you're used to driving a Ferrari and a Lambo so I can see that you might think an Aston Martin is dull.

I don't think so however (I'm used to driving my moms Yaris you know  - no not the Verso). They may weigh a lot and they aren't very sportive but I think they're improving. I don't really like the look of the DB7, the GT is an improvement however and the AMV 8 is even a lot better... Now lets hope they make it more sportive ...

LMAO!!

BTW, with the comoing of the DB9, prices of used DB7 should begin to drop maybe...

Conclusion: The looks of the DB7 are good but not compared to the likes of a Ferrari. The realiabilty is iffy, and the performance is mediocre.

Mediocre... I don't think this is the right word... my 320i is mediocre ;)

We all know what Ford can do in the handling and performance department, let's hope that's what they will do to the new aston. With the aluminium platform, the weight issue should be reduced by quite a bit. The AMV8 is "only" 1500kg.

Yep, but the looks, that's something you've got to make out for yourself.

It's like women, sometimes when I go out a friend of mine says: ow look at her, isn't she hot :P and then I think, yeah dude in the same way your mother is hot :) but I just say: not my type. And sometimes you've got a friend who has exactly the same taste in woman as you, and that's cool :D

tastes differ!!!

Depends on where you live, a DB7 can be more beautiful than a ferrari. Since when you see a rapper driving an aston? Shh! Don't give them the idea, don't want to see them ruin the look of the car.

AlienDB7

You're so right zippo! So, the aston is a supermodel (high maintenance and rare but not "beautiful" for everyone) and ferrari/lambo are the wild ones you see at the pub.

Best solution: get both!

yeh but you can get lazer treatment for your eyes now....so that you can see properly...and then see how much better ferraris look !!!

Funkmaster Flex has got one :D LOL Saw it on MTV Cribs last week.

I like Astons in dark, dark, dark racing green. They're a bit more reserved compared to the Italians. And I would choose the V8 Vantage instead of the DB7 (twice the price, though).

AlienDB7, where did you see the DB9 spy video? It's the first I heard about it.

thinking about performance... astons sucks... they're too heavy and take too much attention to confort. I agree with you jabba when you say that if a ferrari and an aston were side by side, no one will look at the aston, and that's precisly what aston's buyers wants! I like astons, and I like ferraris; two differents approaches of motoring, I think I'll have both of them.. hehe a GT for the week and an F40 for the w-e trackday! :D
But I must say that aston martin exells in making heavy slow car (when compares to what you would expect it to be.) but I still love the olds V8 and vantage lemans tough...

Oh no, you just ruined the aston image for me! Now... have to move on to jag xkr, hope none of them drive one

I saw the DB9 spy video on autoexpress.co.uk (there's a thread about it on RF)

Thanks for the links, those DB's will be nice and so will the Porsche. Does every car manufacturer test it's cars at the Nordschleife?

yea.. XKR-R will be great! Even better, the XK180 (concept).

I thought most manufacturers test their cars at the 'ring, especially the germans.

But that one's got no roof. Can't live without that in Belgium. :?

Here you can find some more testdrives on the ring:

It's in Dutch, though. Look for 'Industrie-pool testritten' :D

Firstly....im impresed with the DB8 pics.....if i adore the looking of every Aston Martin since the launching of the DB7, continuing with the Vanquish, then with the DB9(since the launching of the DB9, I though that it was impossible to design a more beautiful car than this one) but the DB8 its even more beautiful...the point its that ive become an Aston Martin fan now on, since i dont fancy with the current cars in general

On the other hand...about the built quality, the reliability of the Aston Martin...i think that this is a common problem for every manufacturer that has funding problems because, for instance, they can afford some good material as a solvent manufacturer can due to the lack of money...and as a result, the cars result unreliable...thats the same problem as Jag had before the purchasing of Ford, the same problem as Rover has nowadays, as well as Seat had this problem before the purchasing of the VW.....in conclusion, once Ford has purchased Aston Martin, i believe that the problem of reliability, built quality.....is going to be solved within two years, because any global improvement of a company requires time

Really stunning car, but rather cramped interior if you've ever seen one. JC is right...when I saw the car at a motorshow a few years back it really does have little space.

But thanks to this car Aston Martin is what it is now. And I adore it for that reason.
