Sorry for this kind of silly question, but my problem is that I really want to but this car, and I have serious trouble choosing the version :-)
Unfortunatelly the second problem is that I live in the country, where RX-8 is not being sold by Mazda, which means that I have to import it privately. As a results no RX-8 here on the streets, and nobody to talk to :-(
I have driven both versions, and still can't decide. Whether to go for a higher BHP :-), or higher torque (which should be more useful in everyday city driving).
Please help. Any comments are appreciated

Isn't the lower horsepower one with the auto gearbox. Go with the more powerful manual version.

Do not go for the lower power version...the torque difference is not enough to be seriously concerned about in that car if you drive it like it is meant to be driven. The main problem with the low-power engine is that it is endowed with a 4-speed automatic gearbox...the manual 6-speed is not available, and the 6-speed manual is a far better transmission to boot.

Manual, A-Spec!--if you live in a place where it is available...
The manual version! - no question what-so-ever!!!

Mea Culpa. I've totally forgotten that in US the Lower Spec version is automatic. Anyway I would have to buy the car in Europe, and both versions are stick shift, hence the question which one to choose

What do you mean, no so good reviews? I had the opposite impression. Clarkson said it was the best car he had driven this year, other car mags similar. I am not sure about the sales, but the reviews were very posittive.

bhp figures differ a bit from country to country, it depends up to the standard. In Belgium they have DIN hp, if I'm not mistaken. In england, it's different... But off course, some company's let the engine hp vary from country to country for tax laws. A lot of 140hp cars are tuned down in Belgium to 136hp because that's in a lower fiscal block.
My guess is that the Canadian version is the same engine...

I'm sure like you everso that he never driven any RX8.
You will be happy everso to knowledge that the Audi TT possesses a bigger “Maximum cargo volume” than the Mazda RX8.
2004 Audi TT 1.8L 2dr Front-wheel Drive FrontTrak Coupe
Maximum Cargo Volume: 24.2cu.ft.
2004 Mazda RX-8 Sport Automatic 4dr Coupe
Maximum Cargo Volume: 7.6 cu.ft.

it's kind of hard to believe, I mean TT having 24 cu. ft. If I recall correctly BMW 3 sedan has something like 11 cu. ft

^^^^ Perhaps it's because the seats is folded, and remember a TT is a hatchback car's.

Although it may be a minor point as in racing gas cost is just the cost of doing business, but Seeing as though the Rx-8 is also a rotary engine it naturally consumes more gas than the I-4 of the audi the audi is more efficent on the gas mileage. once again although a minor point a point none the less. :D
