Mercedes, trying to be one of the biggest technological advanced car manufacturers has taken a big blow to their reputation yet again...over five hundred thousand new E and SL classes are being recalled world wide because of their electronic braking system...this will cost them quite alot of bucks to get it fixed...

what are they recalling on the brakes? do they completely fail or something? or just the constant complaint of no feel/jerkiness?

Never really fan of this drive-by-wire technology. With the brakes being one of the most important control of the car, I can't imagine depending on some electronics to handle it for you. Same thing for the steer-by-wire. What if the car stalls and the battery died? Instead of just losing power steering, you get zero steering and braking. Scary thought.... I had power steering failing on me once cause the car stalled for no apparently reason and that was bad enough. Almost crashed into someone's house cause the steering was so heavy at 10kph. Luckily handbrake was still working.

Well, shit happens...
But I'm surprised they only realized the fault now :?:

well there is a problem for the cars made from july 2002 i think for the e-class and the sl...the problem is at the SBC (Sensotronic Brake Control)..that means that you still have breaks but you will have to put a little bit more power to the brake than usually...anyway the 80%of the cars that may have the problem were produced and sold at germany.

errrr... its funny how they only did that now.
Autocar reported that almost 2 years ago, when insiders at MB in germany were concerned about the failure of the electronic braking system, which is why the new cars (SLK for example) will not have them anymore...
btw...the SLR has the same braking system...

technology makes people lazy.......that's why we cannot depend all on the technology......it scary when you lost control over your car......i cannot imagine how bad the consequences is
