View Full Version : Don't Buy Gas on May 19th

this is an e-mail i got from a couple of friends. Not to buy Gas on the 19th.
It has been calculated that if everyone in the United States did not
purchase a drop of gasoline for one day and all at the same time, the oil
companies would choke on their stockpiles.
At the same time it would hit the entire industry with a net loss of over
$4.6 billion, which affects the bottom lines of the oil companies.
Therefore, May 19th has been formally declared "STICK IT UP THEIR BEHIND DAY" and the people of this nation should not buy a single drop of gasoline that day.
The only way this can be done is if you forward this e-mail and pass the message along verbally to as many people as you can and as quickly as you can.
Waiting on this administration to step in and control the prices is not
going to happen. What happened to the reduction and control in prices that
the Arab nations promised two weeks ago?
Remember one thing, not only is the price of gasoline going up but at the
same time airlines are forced to raise their prices, trucking companies
are forced to raise their prices which effects prices on everything that is
shipped, including food, clothing, building materials, medical supplies,
etc. Who pays in the end? We do.
We can make a difference if they don't get the message after one day, we
will do it again and again.
So do your part and spread the word. Forward this e-mail to everyone you
know and pass the message along to those who don't have e-mail as well.
Mark your calendar and make May 19th a day that the citizens of the United States say "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

this email is spreading like a wildfire and i think everywhere i go that's all i hear about. but i don't think this will have any effect on people's decisions cuz no matter what, people need gas. they'll probably all fill up their tanks on the 18th, which will make up for the lack of consumption on the 19th. my prediction is this whole thing will be a big flop and the oil companies will still make their money and laugh at our efforts

First off not buying gas for one day won't do anything to oil companies. 2) what did the oil companies do to you?
The gas prices arent going up because of some evil corporation. You can blame the opec cartel(not the corporations) and your govt. The taxes are most of what is jacking up the price. The other piece is particularly in your screwy state. They have different fuel requirements then every where else. So they have a different fuel mix then the rest of the country. Changing fuel mixes for one area jacks up prices everywhere.
Gas tax per state.. add the tax of state and fed tax:
Alabama 18 Montana 27.75
Alaska 8 Nebraska 24.6
Arizona 18 Nevada 23
Arkansas 21.5 New Hampshire 18
California 18 New Jersey 14.5
Colorado 22 New Mexico 17
Connecticut 25 New York 29.65
Delaware 23 North Carolina 23.4
Dist. of Columbia 20 North Dakota 21
Florida 14.1 Ohio 22
Georgia 7.5 Oklahoma 17
Hawaii 16 Oregon 24
Idaho 25 Pennsylvania 25.9
Illinois 19 Rhode Island 30
Indiana 18 South Carolina 16.0
Iowa 20.1 South Dakota 22
Kansas 23 Tennessee 20
Kentucky 15 Texas 20
Louisiana 20 Utah 24.5
Maine 22 Vermont 20
Maryland 23.5 Virginia 17.5
Massachusetts 21.5 Washington 23
Michigan 19 West Virginia 20.5
Minnesota 20 Wisconsin 31.1
Mississippi 18 Wyoming 14
Missouri 17 Federal Tax Rate 18.4
Your lovely state gets almost .40 a gallon in taxes.

Want to realize how much your states screwed up enviromentalists cause problems. Realize that PA has taxes almost 6 cents more, and is further from the middle east.. Yet pays far less for gas because the state doesnt mandate some special gas.

This is a good idea but I doubt it will have to much of an affect
as probably not that many people know about it. The principle
behind the idea sounds like it could work. What we need is some
big bucks and run a massive advertising campaign which would
bring the message to much more people and therefore have a
much bigger affect.
they'll probably all fill up their tanks on the 18th, which will make up for the lack of consumption on the 19th. my prediction is this whole thing will be a big flop and the oil companies will still make their money and laugh at our efforts
Unfortunately that is quite true, people are quite dumb in these
areas. :(

whoa, how about thinking logically!
huge problem in monitoring, and controling opec. although i am largely a contemporary 'less govt. is better' guy, these SOB's singlehandedly could cause almost as much damage as alan greenspan could.... sending shockwaves throughout... leading to such pointless things as a higher cost of living reaching a rate increase not seen since the last oil catastrophe~~~ which nixon tried to freeze, without success.
ok, im kinda venting, but i dont think ill be happy about this anytime

Some people are so freakin dumb it makes my head hurt with rage.
One whole day of not buying gas won't do a damn thing.

personally.. I think you should all STFU until you have to pay the same price as we do here anyway :fist:
I cant believe everywhere I go I see americans crying about having to pay $2 a gallon.. boo hoo... ok so you're gallon is smaller than ours :P but until you have to pay $5.50 a gallon stop whining
Just spam that email.. first of all, I'm sure nobody will actually obey it.. or if somebody will, it won't be the whole US population  .. and there will be no effect whatsoever... ah and bottom line.. no idea why the moaning come from a country where petrol is almsot free compared to Europe! :D

Exactly. And you whine about 18% tax on gas. Check Europe - it's more like 100 - 150 %, depending on country ...

sad but true. actually, i wouldn't say it's almost free but we do pay about half of what most european countries pay. i wonder if that has anything to do with our bombing raids in iraq :P haha k let's not go there.
yesterday my mate was putting gas in his car and started ranting about how expensive gas is (cuz seriously, $2.45 is still damn expensive no matter what country you live in) and i went on to explain to him that the current gas prices is in belgium and france are about 5 US dollars per gallon. he shut up really quick

Petrol is like Dollar 9 cents a litre here, and its going up...Thats the most expensive ever in the history of Automobil in Australia..I'm fuckin pissed off about it...

I know your pointing out that 2.50 isn't much, but what you have to realize is our country is setup differently then yours. We have more wide open spaces and most of our cities are not setup well for public transportation. As a direct result our economy is more effected by gas prices then yours.

i wish Honda could bring this Honda over to the States. http://www.motoring.co.za/index.php?fSectionId=751&fArticleId=2002876
i know this is the Acura TSX, but this is a diesel that does 3.07liter/100km.

I agree with most of what graywolf has said, but disagree with his statement regarding OPEC and the oil companies. OPEC only controls the price of crude. I don't know the exact percentage, but the percentage of gasoline prices that crude prices account for is very small. Percentage-wise gas prices should only rise as much as crude does if the oil companies are as innocent as graywolf claims.

Your ignoring the new epa requirements and the closure of refineries on the west coast requiring shipping across the country. As I said before, I definitly admit the oil companies are getting higher profits then previously, but that is a very small percentage of this recent increase.

lmao... It would be awesome to see gas prices drop, at least until I can figgure out how to get a methanol distillery in my basement up and running to run the 5.0 Off of. Its better than the old days, before you had moonshine prospectors chasing you everywhere. now they're obsolete  My plan has to have a bunch of flaws, but we'll see if I ever follow through with it. lol

yeah i dont see how this will work because IF this happens, everyone would buy gas every other day this week. seems pointless and even thinking about it is futile. i dont see this as an effective way to protest prices. now if we all bought bikes and/or walked more......

Even if everybody in the U.S. did not buy any gas on the 19th, things would be back to normal on the 20th. Nothing accomplished.
I thought gas prices were so high because we are using too much.

what nonsence is this? if i bought a fuel efficiant car, it better damn well be able to efficiantly hit 150mph + quite quickly :)
if all americans bought fuel efficiant cars, what the hell would the working class do in place of heavey duty trucks?
if all americans bought fuel efficiant cars, god knows it wouldn't be willingly
then id smell revolution

Actually no their wouldnt. Much of the fuel constriction is artificially created by opec. They would just cut the numbers back again to maintain the price per barrel, the same way debeers does with the diamonds.
