well i was wonderin around and i found this page about hennessey, from which i have read and heard and all that stuff, but well the first thing i see is that he tunes a viper srt 10 with up to 1000 hp and makes it go from 1-60 mph in 2.2, well what can u do with 1000+ hp, but anyway, i woulndt tune up any car (as i ve said so many times) even for that performance, i prefer makin a 0-60 in more seconds, than in 2.2 with a tuned engine

haha i undestrand u but u can always accelerate half way so u get to 60 in 4 seconds :D .
that is also too much power for me, in the streets u cant use is, no matter what anyones sais

Holy fuck! That thing nearly hits the floor with every gear change!

That is seriously fast... he struggled to go in a straight line

The camera man was shite  .. he kept leaning to the right, then straightening up, even before the car set-off :P

Hennessey is a scammer and a con artist. He has *never* produced a car that does what it claims, rips customers off consistently (steals cars, sells them, and claims otherwise), etc.

This guy is nothing more than a glorified hack job. Worst yet, I know people whom he calls begging for engine tuning help. My 3 yr old cousin could do a better job, and is infinetly more honest.

^^^That's interesting, I've heard things like that before...not very good for Hennessey's image.

Damn, that thing was fast...but what the hell with that camera man, was he falling asleep or something...how hard is it to hold the camera steady, lol.

This is a fast car, no doubt but it's not that hard to make a powerfull car, more difficult to make them handle correctly

great vid..but that car is the most pointless thing ever made..there is no way to drive it..the guy can hardly handle it in a straight line...IMO its dumb and not safe for street driving..

yeah great vid, but i would never buy a car which is as unuseable as a 1000bhp viper. I'd probably be driving too slowly anyway for fear of losing traction.

Damn...that car lifted off when the guy put his foot down. Looked almost like one of them lowriders :D

Is it possible not to burn rubber on that thing, when accelerating from 0 ?? :D

What you don't see is that the engine probably threw a rod just after the video! :D

What a crock...I have zero respect for this guy as a tuner, and even less as a businessman.

any numbnut can put huge engines in cars to make them roll in a fast line....doesn't take much ingenuity.

to make it go around a track circuit fast takes alot more imagination. (i.e: a fast car that can handle)

And of course you believe that anything with a "big engine" obviously can't handle...

Agreed.

All you do with 1000bhp is drive it in 6th gear simple as that.

Ok, a few things;

1) Having lots of power doesn't mean it's uncontrollable. You gear things properly. Makes a big difference. Think about it. And if you're anyone but hennessey, you actually engineer things to work.

2) Big motors do not mean bad handling. I have seen Vipers kick the CRAP out of guys running IMSA cars. Just look at guys like Paul Mumford (RIP). If you look at track junkies, wheel to wheel racers, OTC, One-Lap, etc. (none of that pansy gay gumball crap - I mean real driving) - SURPRISE! Lots of Vipers and Corvettes.

I'm not afraid to say it, a Z06 will take my car in the twisties... I don't have course laptimes ('ring, nordschleiffe (sp), etc.) - but I wouldn't be surprised if it's on-par or just behind or even just ahead depending on the track. Oh, and before anyone says mine's a lard-cake too, look at times for a 360 (everyone agrees a well-handling car) vs. a 550 and then come back crying.

Grow up.

The Veyron has been delayed yet ANOTHER 16 months. They are now saying end of 06. The problem with the Veyron is a) their interior is having big Quality Control issues; and b) they can't achieve the claimed power and speeds. They revised their top speed number down to 350km/h from 400 (massive instability + inability to get that high), and now they can't even get someone to sew some suede???

What about straight line? 550s are mad when on full throttle from what I have seen and read.

As for the twisties does your 550 have the Fiorano pack?

Just for the records, thanks to http://www.track-challenge.com/ here is a little comparison between the 550 Maranello and a Vette Commemorative edition:

Usual data + Ring and Hockenheim laps times ;)

http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/5277/comp550vsvette.jpg

As for straight line acceleration, top speed and so on, the 550 is way faster than a stock vette :D

But also in the twisties, it's not easy for the Vette to fight back :D Same time basically at the shorter Hockeheim and the 500 way ahead at the ring :D

Who knows, I've never had fun with a Z06 side by side. Only comparing my driving experiences in the two. No doubt, the 550 is no slouch.

As for fiorano: 1) Even ferrari experts can't pin down what *exactly* came in the FHP for the 550, esp. since they changed it up. 2) There are extremely few FHP equipped 550s in North America. I haven't bothered to try to find and retrofit the parts. I might do a few things for a hill climb event I am planning on attending, but nothing dramatic.

Just so the record is straight - the Europeean Comm. Edition is a Z51 Coupe.. ;) - not the Z06.. :)

In that respect I would dearly hope that the 550 would give the Coupe a good stick-beating.

The Coupe is not only heavier, less powerful, higher geared and "narrower" tyred than the Z06 - it iis also less sportier suspended than the Z... which does the 'Ring in 7'56" :P. I just wanted to be sure we had our "numbers" correct.

The 550 is probably the best Ferrari"bang for the buck" currently on the market.

Many folks just don't seem to appreciate the front v12 layout enough - and as such, used 550 carry very attractive price tags at the moment.

I would love to have a 550 to share the stable with the Z... LOL

I never understood why people dont like front engined cars these days....sports cars that is.....Its classic! Look at the greats of racing at the moment. The Lister Storm, 550/575/, C5R........all Front engined vehicles.

That car is dumb - thats the only thing its ever gonna be good for .. a sttraight line .. face it .. 0 to 60 .. 1/4 times ... means nothing .. its how fast you can lap a track now adays ..
