Nice collection there, guys!

gis, why do you keep them in the box? It's hard to look at them from all angles like that.

TT, from which manufacturer is the Miura Jota in 1/43? Is it also from Kyosho? It looks great. And the Stratos, is that from Vitesse? If so, then I've got the same, only in red.

My collection is largely stored away at my parents'. I only have a couple of 1/43 right here.

All I can say to those running out of space is switch to 1/43rd... I did too when I ran out of space and for about the same money you can buy models with the same level of detail that take a quarter of the space a 1/18 model would. One more advantage, in 1/43 a lot more models are released, so the choice is also better. Besides, somehow I like models better in 1/43. Details mean more to me when they're difficult to make. I'm not buying 1/18s anymore...

TT
05-13-2004, 05:41 PM
stradale, yes also the small Miura J is by Kyosho :D

And congrats Evo, very nice collection :D

Evo
05-13-2004, 05:56 PM
stradale, you might be right about the 1:43 scale being better detail.. and I am running out of space too.. but I still am getting 1:18..

1:18 is bigger but I still like them the 1:43 is to small for my kind..and the 1:18 is a good size to display on a stand.. you can see it from far away..

TT, I'm just wondring if you got my PM.

05-14-2004, 02:22 AM
I only have in 1:18 1996 Dodge Viper GTS, Audi RS4, 96 Chevy Impala SS, 996 Porsche GT2.

I know an untraceable car in die cast model: 3rd generation of Eagle Talon TSI 1:18. Nevertheless this is a common car ... strange ? :? I swear it does not exist. There is only in the market the ugly Mitsubishie Eclipse from F&F. :(

I used to burn and destroy my old Majorettes and Hot Wheels. A little of alcohol 96º, or glue, a hammer... you know how far the imagination of a 10 year-old boy can reach :D . I remember when I was 16, to pass over a 1/24 car (I think it was a Sierra) with my dad's Toyota 4Runner. The poor car looked like an omelette!

  Poor car.. ...

You guys have some nice collections. Oddly enough, this is the one thing I never started collecting. The only small model cars I have are Kyosho Mini-Zs. In the Mini Z dept, I have a yellow 355, CLK-GTR with working lights, and a racing Skyline (Xanavi) which is really fast, the little thing does 20-30mph easily. I also have a Mini-Z Overland-Dakar Mistu Pajero and an Epoch Skyline (I think its 1:43) its pretty quick too. Ill probably break down and get the new Mini-Z Monster Truck soon too. I also have some old Penny racers and some Bit-Char-gs, etc. LOL Ill take some pics tomorrow as the cam's battery is dead ATM.

My uncle has an enormous collection of scale cars, I mean walls and walls of them. If I remember ill go over and get some pics of them.

gis: yea there are. mainly BBR and minichamps(the michael schumacher collection)

yg60m: ferrari fan? i think others beat me to that. schumacher fan? definately!!! even if schumacher went to minardi i still buy his car.

i have been tempted to buy road cars, but just buying schumacher is expensive. just look at BBR and you know. plus i was late getting my hands on the minichamps, so they're like 250-500 each. 1/43 scale too

TT
05-14-2004, 06:31 AM
Again very nice and big collection dude :D and nice to see lot of free spots in some pics :D

stracing
05-14-2004, 06:41 AM
fark i love his collection!
i love how some momentos were added like the hat and wine/champagne. very nice touch

but in the last pic with the 1/43 that is one expensive cabinet!
i got the alesi riding schumacher's benetton. i paid so much for that i don't even wanna say. the first thing i did when i came home was had a quick look and packed it away so it won't remind me what damage it made to my wallet.

gis
05-14-2004, 07:01 AM
are the quality of the BBR worth the hefty price tag,i never seen a BBR model up close so i havent seen the quality.

dani_d_mas - can i ask who made your ferrari F40,the next cars i want to add to my collection will be ferrari ones and i want the F40 and F50,i seen the F50 many times but never the F40,who was yours made by?

gis
05-14-2004, 07:42 AM
cool ill have to look for the F40.its the same brand that Evo has,but as u said i may have to look for a hot wheels version if they made it yet. :)

jon_s
05-14-2004, 09:16 AM
gis, who made the gt3 and gt2?? they look increadible!

stracing
05-14-2004, 10:11 AM
i reckon they are worth it. the quality is excellent. very hard to find a fault. another thing is they are rare. only about 250 or 300 are made for the world.

if you want F40 or F50, get one the F40 from Kyosho and F50 from Tamiya. they are rather large but hell are they beuatiful.

gis
05-14-2004, 10:20 AM
jon_s the GT3 is hot wheels, looks awesome IMO and the GT2 is an auto art which is even more nice, lol

stracing - dont get me started on the F40 by kyosho,i saw the 1:12 scale one for £300.that took me about 2 hours to walk away from and not buy,lol

TT
05-14-2004, 10:28 AM
The local 1:12 Kyosho F40 is still in the shop here!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it's also cheaper than 300 GBP :D

gis
05-14-2004, 10:37 AM
TT thats unfair, lol i love that model, but i also would lack one thing, and thats space to put it.you should buy it though :D

stracing
05-14-2004, 10:42 AM
yea TT go buy it. i'd buy it if i was into die cast road cars

I have a question.. what's the best brand for 1/43 scale models?

For Ferrari, I will go for BBR...
For Japanese, I will go for Ebbro

what about the others? like Porsche or Lambo....??

TT

Beside BBR (not so cheap) and Ebbro (already affordable), the best cheap ones are IMO, Autoart, Ixo, Minichamps and Kyosho :)

i reckon Autoart is really good quality

Avoid Maisto like a plague unless you're on a budget. So many details are left out in those cars.

It depends on the space you got..
I personally like the 1:18 scale.. some people would argue and say that 1:48 is better quality and takes up less space.. and some don't mind the extra space so they get the 1:12 scale.. It all depends on you.. but they are all good..

Autoart is my favorite model manufacturer just in case you are wondering.

stracing
05-16-2004, 03:27 AM
i'm not worried about space...becuase i will have a cabinet for it. i'm just waiting for a good second hand to pop up because i don' think its worth buying a new one.

if i could afford it, i'd proabaly get 1/8 or 1/4 scale but they run into tens of thousands US money

If you have have big free volumes in your house and you don't mind spending around 2x for every model, go for 1/18 :D

As for me, I buy also 1/18 models, but I prefer 1/43 because first, they come in very nice plastic boxes while if you want to keep the 1/18 inside their original ones, they are not so nice since they aren't meant to be exposed in them (you can buy 1/18 boxes identical to the 1/43 ones but you have to pay extra.
Second, they are smaller and easier to store :D
Third, 1/43 are cheaper: I pay around 35-40 USD for every 1/43 and 75-80 for the big ones..

MR builds quite some Lambos these days. The quality is on a par with BBR.

If you can build 1/43 kits, then AMR, Le Phoenix, Tameo, BBR, MR, Tron, (to a lesser extent) Provence Moulage, Racing 43 etc. have excellent kits.

I'm no expert on Porsche kits. Don't have a clue who's offering decent ones.

I think only MAISTO make the CGT, they also the only one that make the SLR.

TT
05-18-2004, 08:51 PM
BTW, by Maisto I also saw a CGT costing between 60 and 70 USD instead of the other one that costs around 30.. since I don't like Maisto that much I didn't checked it, but now I wonder if the quality could be much better than the "cheap" version

Vansquish
05-18-2004, 08:59 PM
Hey TT...could you give me a link to the place where you saw the expensive version of the CGT? I'd be very curious to see it, the only versions of which I am aware are the concept CGT in Dark Silver and Black, the production version in Black or Red, and the concept version as an RC car also by Maisto...I think those go for about $17, $20, and $45 usd respectively.

Incidentally, I'd be happy to try and arrange something for those of you overseas to get your hands on some models fairly cheaply. My family is a member of Costco and during the X-mas season they have Maisto 1:18 models for $10 usd apiece. I could probably buy a bunch and then ship them...I'd only charge what the model and the shipping itself cost (i.e. no profit hehe)

TT
05-18-2004, 09:03 PM
Do they have also better brands like Autoart or Kyosho during those sales? :D

As for the CGT, I saw the 60 USD one in my local shop, but a quick search just brought this to my attention... -> LMAO.. it is a CGT with working head and tail lights.. I didn't really notice in the shop

I believe that the only cars I've seen at those Costco X-mas sales are for Maisto and a few ERTL and Tonka products...and maybe a Road Legend or two. The Maisto cars are certainly the highest detail of the bunch, though I'm prone to taking them home, stripping them bare and carving new parts and detailing them more realistically. The quality of Maisto models has improved quite a bit in the last couple of years...to the point where I think that they are better than Bburago except perhaps in terms of paint finish, but that's somewhat debatable.

As for the CGT that costs $60 usd (with lights and infrared control) I can only assume that that is because of the shipping costs and the fact that EWA wants to make a profit (whereas I don't) They can be found on the US version of Ebay for $35-45 usd.

TT
05-19-2004, 05:23 AM
Well I'm sure the price was about the same in the store I visit since it was way closer to the price of an Autoart than a normal Maisto :D still well, no idea why you will need working lights on your model LOL :D

And yes I think some of the latest Maisto models are not that bad and there are nice cars that are done by them only, still, I prefer to stick with other brands when possible :D thanks for the offer man! Anyway sadly shipping costs would make what you are suggesting quite less cheap: to send a single 1:18 car would cost in the 20 USD, so the final result will be more expensive than the price we have over here :?

where do you guys buy all these?
i would really like to start collecting them
what are the prices like?

TT

As we said many times, usual price for good models like Autoart (1/43 and 1/18), Minichamps (1/43 and 1/18), IXO (1/43), Kyosho (1/43, 1/18) and such are usually something like 40 USD for a small one and 80 for big ones..

The best place to buy them are normal stores since you can check them out before you buy them.. online you risk to receive a damaged or not perfect one and discover it when it will be to late ;)

TT

Well I guess they can't really play a lot with the prices... I see they are basically always the same worldwide :D

God damn these are fine collections gis, TT and EVO. I always spend some time in supermarket admireing some nice 1:18 scale models but unfortunately I always tend to "invest" my money somewhere else. But seeing those marvellous collections here I know I must start collecting them as well..

Very best pictures are the ones of gis about his Porsches:

Really nice!!!

EDIT: dani_d_mas collection - all those ferraris!!!!!!!!! Awwww.... Really excellent.

EDIT 2: just read the whole topic through again and my mind is made up - must start buying and collecting some nice models myself. and SOON. Hopefully I can show you my own collection also in the future.. At the moment there is only 1 F1 Ferrari kit (1:18) which was damaged by my 4 years old relative :( :( not even worth posting a pic of it..

EDIT 3: There are some very good links to the webpages where one can find lots of models related stuff... Perhaps gis, as the founder of this topic should put links to his first post so they would be easily accessible.. just a thought

note: the smaller pics (most of them) were resized by my image host, so they're not the best of quality...but you get the idea 8)

the three models with the LEGO Technics guys in them are all on the same shelf doing a sort of a drag race...it's actually not too dramatic, but it's different...i'll put a pic of that later.
